👥 Can Dialogue Foster Active Citizen Participation? Policies succeed when citizens understand and engage with them. At People Dialogue Festival (PDF) 2025, Busara explored how behavioral science can transform governance by improving communication and participation. 🔹 Citizens engage when policies are clear and accessible. 🔹 Dialogue builds trust and accountability. 🔹 Behavioral insights can make participation meaningful—not just symbolic. 📢 Catch the panel discussion with Twaweza East Africa, Shujaaz Inc, and Busara, where we tackled critical questions on what truly motivates citizens to engage in democracy: ✅ Is self-efficacy a driver of engagement? Do people participate more when they believe their actions can create change? ✅ What is the role of CSOs in driving engagement? How can civil society organizations effectively foster active citizenship? ✅ What is the role of technology in citizen participation? From social media to digital platforms, how do emerging tools shape public discourse and mobilization? 📖 Read David Muruaru’s reflections from PDF 2025 here 👇 : 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dxP_uDWK #PublicParticipation #BehavioralScience #Governance #CitizenEngagement #PDF2025

📊 On World Behavioral Analysis Day, a look at who gets left out of research. Behavioral science informs policies and programs, but participation in research is not evenly distributed. Certain populations—often those most affected by policies—are underrepresented, leading to gaps in knowledge and interventions that may not work for everyone. The Missing Majority dashboard, created by Rémi Thériault, Patrick Forscher, and a team of researchers, visualizes these disparities. The data maps out who is included in behavioral studies, who is not, and what this means for the field. On a day dedicated to advancing behavioral analysis, this resource provides a data-driven perspective on representation in research. 🔍 Explore the insights here: https://lnkd.in/d4Zsr3Pr #WorldBehavioralAnalysisDay #BehavioralScience #MissingMajority #InclusiveResearch

📢 Day 2 of the Citizen Ethnography Workshop! In research, who gets recognized, and who gets overlooked? Field officers and enumerators—the very people who collect and process data—are often left out of the acknowledgments, while recognition is reserved for field managers and principal investigators. Today, we challenge that norm. 🔍 Key discussions shaping the future of participatory research:- 🔹 Citizen ethnographers & Male Sex Workers (MSWs): We hear firsthand how ethnographic research is uncovering new ways for MSWs to diversify income-generating activities, strengthening financial security beyond their primary work. 🔹 The hidden role of research officers: When we treat those at the frontline of data collection with respect—through fair pay, career growth, and inclusion in analysis—the quality of insights improves, leading to stronger development outcomes. 🔹 The power of non-academics in research: Those embedded in the communities they study bring richer, more contextualized insights—challenging the assumption that only academics produce quality data. As the demand for rigorous, high-quality data grows, so does the need to rethink the way research is done—centering those who know the realities on the ground. Ethnography isn’t just a method; it’s a pathway to more inclusive, impactful research. Special thanks goes to Ben Eyre from the University of East Anglia for partnering with us during our two-day citizen ethnography. #CitizenEthnography #ResearchEquity #QualitativeResearch #DevelopmentImpact #InclusiveResearch
