Decarbonizing industry via research & analysis, focused campaigns, networking & capacity building, sharp communications.
About us
Our mission is to decarbonize heavy industry by 2045: cleaning up the processes we use to make steel, aluminum and other materials and advancing a circular economy. Today, industrial emissions 40% of global greenhouse gas emissions, making it the largest source of emissions. And, while other sectors like transportation and buildings are falling, emissions in the industrial sector are stuck. We partner with foundations and advocates to develop campaign strategies, support the execution of campaigns, and stand up diverse coalitions to tackle industrial sectors including steel, aluminum, waste and advancing a circular economy.

The rapid growth of the electric vehicles (EVs) industry is crucial for decarbonization, but it's far from perfect. Supply chain issues, deforestation, emissions concerns – we need to address these now. In every place where mineral extraction is taking place, there are consequences for folks on the ground. Matthew Groch, Sr. Director at Mighty Earth spoke on the latest episode of Driving Mobility Podcast where he named that, “It’s happening right under our noses. Ford is talking about their 100% Electric F150 with lightweight aluminum and that aluminum is deforesting, pushing people off their lands, polluting villages and making people sick.” Mighty Earth’s goal is to protect half of Nature to transform the highest omitting industries like the auto, cattle and agriculture to become cleaner and to protect local and Indigenous communities. We pressure companies with proven links to the destruction of Nature through our perfect storm campaigns, to become sustainable and a force for good. Be sure to listen to the full episode, “What will it take to clean up the EV industry” from Driving Mobility Podcast today! https://lnkd.in/ecAYPB_N Jonathan Haddad Glenn Hurowitz Alex Armstrong Sydney Jones Carole Mitchell Molly Dorozenski Casey Nitsch Justin Williams #EVIndustry #DecarbonizationGoals #CleanUpTheIndustry #deforestation #DrivingMobility #podcast #decarbonization #supplychains #evs #electricvehicles #heavyindustry #enddeforestation #dirtysupplychains #emissions #greenhousegases

Landfills are the 3rd-largest source of methane emissions in the country, but limited information can be a barrier to addressing them. Carbon Mapper data is critical to making methane emissions visible, increasing transparency, and enabling science-based solutions. Learn more about how data can drive action in the waste sector:

Century Aluminum aims to roughly double the U.S. output of aluminum from smelters by building the country’s first new smelter in 45 years. The company’s biggest challenge is securing an affordable power supply. In manufacturing, few things are as power-intensive as turning powdery aluminum oxide into metal. Producing a ton of aluminum typically uses more electricity than a single household consumes in an entire year. Century expects its planned smelter to produce about 1,500 metric tons of aluminum a day. “This is going to be a test case for America’s reindustrialization,” said Joe Quinn, executive director for the Center for Strategic Industrial Materials. Century is counting on the aggressive build-out of solar- and wind-powered generating capacity now under way to start yielding excess power after 2030, and the company hopes to lock down supply in exchange for a decade’s worth of steady electricity demand from a new smelter.

Great story by Chrystal Blair for Public News Service! "[Katherine B.] noted the good news is, the EPA and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer hold the pen to introduce tougher requirements for methane emissions standards, particularly with the clean energy legislation signed into law last year in Michigan."
