About us
The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) is an independent global health research center at the University of Washington that provides rigorous and comparable measurement of the world's most important health problems and evaluates the strategies used to address them. IHME makes this information freely available so that policymakers have the evidence they need to make informed decisions about how to allocate resources to best improve population health. Our mission is to improve the health of the world’s populations by providing the best information on population health.

Without action, increased #AMR could lower global GDP by up to $1.7 trillion annually. However, innovation in antibiotics and improved health care could result in a $959 billion annual GDP gain. Explore the impact by 2050 in our #EcoAMR series with World Organisation for Animal Health | The World Bank | Center for Global Development | Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation | RAND Europe | http://ms.spr.ly/6041mLfOV

From 1990 to 2021, the burden of stroke has increased due to both population growth and aging populations worldwide, but also increasing contributions from preventable environmental, metabolic, and behavioral risk factors—84% of stroke burden in 2021 was attributable to 23 modifiable risk factors. Between 1990 and 2021, the global stroke burden linked to these risk factors increased substantially: • high BMI (↑ 88%) • high temperatures (↑ 72%) • high blood sugar (↑ 32%) • diet high in sugar-sweetened drinks (↑ 23%) • low physical activity (↑ 11%) • high systolic blood pressure (↑ 7%) • lead exposure (↑ 7%) • diet low in omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (↑ 5%) Effective and accessible measures to improve stroke burden need to be urgently implemented across all countries. Prevention should be at the forefront, with an emphasis on managing lifestyle and environmental factors. The Lancet ➡http://ms.spr.ly/6044mLNBa

Celebrating global health progress, the #RouxPrize applauds Dr. Madeleine Ballard, CEO of Community Health Impact Coalition (CHIC) and community health workers for their instrumental role in diminishing health disparities. By building a multi-country coalition of CHWs and researchers, CHIC has brought together a community of advocates to address critical health data, the implementation of which has resulted in the first World Health Organization guidelines for CHWs, USAID’s flagship CHW program evaluation tool, and the first-ever guidance on creating georeferenced health worker master lists. »http://ms.spr.ly/6041mVvVH
