"I always knew I wanted to be a doctor and surgeon, just like my dad," says Kaitlyn C. McCune, MD. "But I was drawn to Ob-Gyn my second year of medical school during a community rotation. It was there that I had the privilege of being a part of my first delivery, a healthy baby girl! Throughout the rest of my medical school training, I continued to see the strength of birthing parents and their families. I was drawn to the advocacy work inherent in Ob-Gyn and reproductive healthcare." Dr. McCune earned her undergraduate degree from Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia. She attended the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and completed her residency at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. "Every day, I am honored to be a part of my patients' lives, even if for just a moment, and I endeavor to ensure truly patient-centered care with each encounter," she says. We’re excited to share the transformation of our facility at 50 Foden Road, which will allow more of our practices to grow. This location will house Sports Medicine, Physical Therapy, Neurology and Cardiology. Neurology will no longer be at our 84 Marginal Way location. Our upgraded facility includes state-of-the-art equipment, new exam rooms, and an improved reception and waiting area, all designed with patient comfort and care in mind. Sean Shields, Director of Specialty and Ancillary Services, shared his enthusiasm: “We are very excited to introduce our patients to the new space. It’s beautiful. While we officially began treating patients earlier this month, this is a culmination of two years of planning, support and execution. InterMed is delighted to announce the appointment of Lindsay Fitzgerald, SCHRM-SCP, CSP, as its chief human resources officer. Fitzgerald brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to the executive leadership team. In this role, Fitzgerald oversees the Human Resources team and recruiting, benefits, employee relations, workers compensation and organizational development. “I am honored to join InterMed at such an exciting time in its journey,” Fitzgerald says. “My primary goal is to foster a workplace culture that empowers our people, drives innovation and supports our strategic vision. Together, we will focus on creating an environment where every team member can thrive and contribute to our shared success.” Fitzgerald brings more than 20 years of extensive experience in Human Resources, coupled with more than 15 years in leadership roles across diverse industries including healthcare, hospitality, retail and staffing. Fitzgerald holds a proven track record of fostering a positive work culture and implementing strategic HR initiatives that align with organizational goals. What a weekend! On Friday, InterMed employees went to the Dempsey Challenge Sponsor Reception in Auburn. Hosted by Patrick Dempsey and Mark Consuelos, this event brought together challenge sponsors who signed up to volunteer or race. Our team had a great time while showing InterMed's commitment to the cause. On Saturday, we participated in the Dempsey Challenge in Lewiston, with team members volunteering and racing in various events. We also staffed the Medical Tent, located by the finish line and had volunteers camped out at rest stops among the routes. The day was filled with collaboration, community spirit and meaningful engagement. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated and supported us—together, we raised $6,865 for the Dempsey Challenge. "I was drawn to family medicine largely for the ability to work with all ages, at all stages of life," says Maura Fox, DO. "My goal as a primary care physician is to place emphasis on the prevention or reversal of chronic disease through lifestyle medicine. Family medicine also allows me to see patients for all aspects of reproductive health, which is a passion of mine." Dr. Fox earned her undergraduate degree from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. She attended the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her residency at Mountain Area Health Education Center in Asheville, North Carolina. Working in primary care allows for longitudinal relationships with patients, she says, and these relationships are key to finding “meaning in medicine.” Dr. Fox loves family medicine for the fact that she can treat the entire family from “womb to tomb” - working with newborns after seeing a pregnant person through their prenatal care, watching pediatric patients meet their developmental milestones and seeing young adults through adulthood and beyond. "It is such an honor working with children and their families to form strong partnerships that empower them to achieve their health goals all while emphasizing the importance of a healthy body and mind," says Lauren Jamele-Townley, DO. Dr. Jamele-Townley hails from just outside of Boston and earned her undergraduate degree at Boston University. After a few years of experience as an EMT/emergency room technician, she ventured to Maine for medical school and residency. While she approached medical school rotations with an open mind and was captivated by multiple specialties, pediatrics always held a special place in her heart. It was during her residency that she found herself drawn to the primary care clinic, where the bonds she formed with patients and their families became deeply meaningful. It was at that point she knew her calling was in primary care pediatrics. Outside of work, Dr. Jamele-Townley cherishes time with her family, whether biking together, enjoying family game nights, building LEGO creations with her son, playing the piano or relaxing with a good book at the beach. August is National ASC Month! Did you know that the InterMed Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) is one of 15 ASCs in the state of Maine? ASCs provide outpatient surgery with the goal of providing high quality, lower cost surgical services to patients. In two operating rooms currently located at our Marginal Way location, InterMed ASC offers elective and semi-urgent surgeries in the following specialties: Gynecologic Surgery, Orthopedics, Podiatry, and Urology with additions of ENT and General Surgery over the past year. Our medical team includes physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, anesthesiologists and certified nurse anesthetists. The ASC is licensed by the state of Maine and accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).
