About us
Italian Home for Children offers its help to children ages 4-14 in our residential and day treatment programs and through our educational services. These children may have learning disabilities or emotional, behavioral and mental health concerns brought on by trauma in their home, school or community. Unfortunately, many children and families are faced with overcoming these situations alone, but with help from Italian Home, these issues are oftentimes resolved. Italian Home for Children provides these boys and girls with the best education, care and treatment so they can thrive at home or in their community. With individualized therapies and around-the-clock nurturing, we help them rebuild their lives - emotionally and academically. In addition, we also pave the way for a healthy and safe reintegration back into their schools, families and communities by giving them the tools to cope with their traumatic situations. The programs and services administered by Italian Home are the last and only link between these children and the lives they so desperately wish to live.

Did Margaritaville move to Jamaica Plain? Maura Fleming and the kind-during-all-seasons folks from Ethos donated a boatload of beachy/summery stuff for our kids: pool shirts, swim trunks, flipflops, sunscreen, towels, toys & more. Their fashion taste was exceeded only by their generosity. Thank you, Ethos for making our kids’ summer so much sunnier!

AMETEK Sensors & Fluid Management Systems gets a grade of A+ for giving each of our kids from our residential, school & community programs bags of summer supplies at our annual Recognition Day. Each bag contained composition books, colored pencils, sunscreen, flip-flops, a beach towel & a drawstring backpack. Thank you, Ametek, for being loyal friends of our mission & our kids!

Presto, they like pesto! GRAZIE to the ever-loyal volunteers from State Street who recently visited the kids from our residential program to teach them to make ravioli & pesto from scratch. The kids loved cooking in their chef’s hats & paste-on mustaches & then eating their handiwork. The State Street crew are state-of-the-art teachers, true naturals!

We welcomed 2 volunteers from the CUMMINGS FOUNDATION. Katelyn Quynn & Ed Rocha visited to speak with Sue Keays & senior staff about how we are benefiting from Cummings’ most generous 10-year grant of $300K. In year 4 of the grant, we shared news of the founding of our first-in-the-nation Neurodevelopmental Unit & our Partial Hospitalization Program. After the visit, Katelyn said: “I was so impressed by the level of both compassion and professionalism/expertise that we saw yesterday. We are so fortunate to have you in our backyard!” Thank you #cummingsfoundation !

They EMERGED to RAISE almost $14k to send kids to camp! Many thanks to our Emerging Leaders & friends - 17 strong - who sacrificed a day of beach & barbecue to attend our Fitness Fundraiser at Backyahd Boston. They reached out to their networks to secure donations so that 10 kids will have this life-changing experience of summer camp.

Many thanks to the kind and creative volunteers from Dyer Brown & Associates for visiting and spending time with our kids!
Founded in 1919, as an orphanage, after the influenza epidemic of 1918, Italian Home for Children services many avenues for our local Boston community. These include mental health services, in-home therapies, therapeutic mentoring, after school programs, camps, intensive group homes, residential treatment services, and a spiritual enrichment program. Our Dyer Brown volunteers made arts and crafts with their current children including their specialized neurodiverse community. With a focus on helping the children with a wide range of skills, together, we painted ornaments, crafted paper jellyfish, and created sensory bottles. We even had an ice cream party to wrap up the day! #CultureDrivesDesign #CorporateCulture #design #architecture #interiors #Recognition #shoutout #celebrate #value #achievement
