John Graham, a desert farming specialist, once said, "Take care of the soil, and the soil takes care of the plants." In aquaculture, a similar principle applies: "Take care of the water, and the water takes care of the fish." While other critical factors such as proper nutrition, disease management, and stocking density apply, water quality is a fundamental pillar of fish health and productivity that plays an essential role in ensuring sustainable and profitable fish farming. So, how do you ensure that your pond water is optimal for fish health? Regular water monitoring is key! Here are some key water quality parameters to monitor: 1. pH Levels – Maintain the optimum pH balance for fish well-being 2. Dissolved Oxygen – Keep oxygen levels high for active, healthy fish 3. Temperature – Avoid extremes to prevent stress and disease 4. Turbidity – Clear water = a better environment 5. Ammonia Levels – Too much can be toxic! Consistently monitoring these factors aligns with core aquaculture best practices and helps create a thriving aquatic ecosystem Would you ever consider fish farming? Africa’s climate future is on the line! Despite needing $277 billion annually for climate action, the continent receives less than 12% of global climate finance. The Africa Youth Climate Finance Fellowship (AYCFF) is here to change that! This game-changing fellowship will equip young African leaders with the tools to drive finance solutions for a sustainable future. Stay tuned for the official launch. 👀 💬 What’s the biggest challenge in securing climate finance for Africa? In a world of cut-throat competition, your boldness can speak louder than your papers! I was invited to speak at the inaugural University of Embu Career Week & where rather than just speaking I conducted live interviews and hired two young people on the spot. This was to demonstrate what the real world looks like and how to get ready for it. I also held Productive discussions with PS Higher Education & Research Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, and Prof. Daniel Mugendi, the chair of the University Council of Vice Chancellors ahead of the launch of our “Green Careers Caravan” project. The project entails events and programmes aimed at increasing awareness, building capacity, and transitioning an initial 15 universities and 250k students to pathways for green jobs. Other guests present were Prof. Vincent Ogutu Strathmore University, DVCs from the University of Embu & industry leaders, and fellow distinguished guests. #JacobsLadderAfrica #GreenJobs #YouthEmpowerment #HigherEducation #CareerWeek Jacob's Ladder Africa (JLA) Ministry Of Education, Kenya (MOE) The Education Collaborative
