First anniversary post! 🎉 It has been a year since Constance Li and I began working full-time on Hive as co-founders. A year ago, we were uncertain about Hive's potential impact, but we committed fully due to promising early indicators and momentum. Fast forward to August 2024: we hear stories from members about the impact that Hive has had on their journeys to become more effective farmed animal advocates nearly every day and our organization has grown beyond our expectations. People often celebrate only the wins, but I want to acknowledge the struggles too. This year has been incredibly stressful. Constance and I traveled a lot for conferences and meetups, which took a toll on our personal lives and mental health. With little time off, the workload sometimes became overwhelming. Rejection and disappointment often hit our motivation hard. The learning curve we both had to go on was pretty steep at times, and we started and abandoned many projects along the way. Our advisors and supporters were key to keeping us going. Amid the lows, there have been many highs. Hive has changed our lives and those of many in our community. It’s the best job we’ve ever had. We've found the roles within the org that suit us (though we are still experimenting and changing organizational practices all the time), and we greatly enjoy most of what we do. Hive is now a thriving community with over 1,000 monthly active members, and we've recorded at least 48 high-impact outcomes, such as new projects, jobs, and collaborations that otherwise may not have come about. Each impactful outcome or word of gratitude feels like an early Christmas. Every grant, donation, and positive trend boosts our confidence. Hiring new team members Allison Agnello Kevin Xia 🔸 Douglas Browne and witnessing their excellent work made us proud. Seeing Hive function as a community driven by amazing members contributing regularly is an indescribable feeling 💥 . Thank you for being part of our journey and believing in us. Many of you have been with us from the start, and we are deeply grateful. Together, we are creating something extraordinary and powerful, working to end one of the worst atrocities of the 21st century—factory farming—by connecting advocates to amplify their impact.
