In the latest issue of Kaplan's Bold Learning newsletter, just out today: Brittany Wampler, director, All-Access, Kaplan, writes that in #highereducation, scaffolding plays a crucial role in guiding #students through financial, emotional, and academic challenges. By offering timely, personalized support, #collegesanduniversities can help students—especially first-generation and underrepresented students—overcome obstacles and achieve their goals. And: Last month, California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill banning legacy considerations in #collegeadmissions at private institutions, aiming to promote fairness. According to Kaplan's 2024 college admissions officers survey, this kind of action has significant support, though it's far from unanimous. We have some proprietary research to share today! Results from Kaplan’s 2024 law school admissions officers survey show that the majority of law schools still have no official policies regulating how prospective students can use artificial intelligence in a critical piece of their application: the admissions essay, which many law schools say can be the “biggest application dealbreaker." “We’re somewhat surprised that more law schools don’t have official policies to provide pathways and guardrails on how applicants can use GenAI, given its rapidly growing adoption, but we don’t believe that’s a tenable position," said Amit Schlesinger, Kaplan's executive director of legal and government programs. "As we see it, in a way, no policy at all may be understood by applicants as a de facto policy of allowing it, which only muddies the waters. Applicants may view official policies on the use of GenAI as crucial because they provide clear guidance and ethical boundaries, ensuring a level playing field. Transparent rules help applicants understand how they can responsibly leverage GenAI, while preserving the integrity of the admissions process and allowing them to showcase their genuine capabilities.” Click the link below for more, including full results and direct quotes from some of the nearly 100 admissions officers we interviewed. And it's not just law schools grappling with this issue. It's medical schools, business schools, and colleges and universities too. Stay tuned for more of our findings. https://lnkd.in/eJAN4Xph #highereducation #highered #collegesanduniversities #GenAI #artificialintelligence #AI

In the latest issue of Kaplan's Bold Learning newsletter, just out today: Juan Carlos Polanco, Esq., MBA, the CEO of Council on Legal Education Opportunity (CLEO), and a visiting professor of business at University of Mount Saint Vincent, discusses how #artificialintelligence is changing the legal education landscape and how both #students and professors can harness its power. In part, he writes, "The exciting news for educators is that, along with a certain amount of worry, the brave new world of #AI may provide some truly great teaching tools. That might include a series of carefully constructed questions designed to prompt students to think through their assumptions and craft compelling arguments - an AI version of the Socratic method. Building this kind of systematic, logical thinking is particularly useful for the #LSAT because of its emphasis on logic rather than acquired knowledge." Also: According to a recently released survey by Handshake, a large majority of the Class of 2025 says their college experience has significantly contributed to their personal growth and somewhat prepared them for the workforce. Prioritizing student success is a multifaceted effort. To be done successfully, it requires a holistic focus on helping all students flourish both in their education and beyond to post-graduation. New York University, the nation’s largest private research university, is at the forefront of this effort to remove barriers and propel students to the next phase of their educational and career journey. In a recent webinar, Dr. Mark Siegal, NYU's vice provost for undergraduate academic affairs, and Kim Canning, Kaplan's vice president of university partnerships, joined moderator Yvonne Cowser Yancy, Kaplan’s Chief People Officer, for a discussion of how NYU approaches the challenge of advancing the academic success of all of its students. "Much of this work in student success is individual to individual. There are a lot of on-the-ground conversations with faculty or advising moments with students. The work of student success is very localized. Collectively, we want to have an impact...This is why Kaplan’s All Access License program is a game-changer. We can actually flip a switch and say, 'NYU students, you now have access to the leading test prep courses for these professions and career goals you have,'” Siegal said during the webinar. Grounded in Kaplan's commitment to access and equity for all, our All Access License helps #collegesanduniversities broaden students’ access to robust educational tools while dramatically reducing costs. The License provides university-wide access to Kaplan’s industry-leading #testprep for admissions exams, licensure, credentials, and #workforcereadiness programs for one flat fee. Enthusiasm for it among students at participating schools across the country, including thousands at NYU, continues to grow! https://lnkd.in/epfiM4nr #highereducation #highered
