"Anyone can drown, but no one should" In a bid to stem the alarming rise in drowning incidents, the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority launched a comprehensive training program on July 25. The initiative aimed to cultivate a new generation of #watersafetyadvocates among students to effectively disseminate the message of drowning prevention and #watersafety to the wider community. Dr. Sekhar Lukose Kuriakose., Member Secretary, KSDMA inaugurated the program with a call to action, emphasizing the urgent need for a water-safe Kerala. He also emphasized the importance of nurturing #preparedness and caution around water safety to #preventdrownings. Member secretary also underscored the role of children in disseminating this knowledge and empowering their communities. The training adhered to strict safety protocols and was conducted by experienced professionals. Practical demonstrations were led by the #AapdaMitra team, with the district medical team providing on-site support. Participants were encouraged to share their concerns and questions, creating a platform for young voices in shaping water safety initiatives. Dr. Midhila Mallika, the State Project Officer, outlined the program's future trajectory. Aligned with KSDMA's commitment to #inclusive and #disabilityinclusiveDRR, she emphasized the need for targeted water safety awareness programs for vulnerable groups, including the visually impaired, children, and women, as a crucial component of broader societal efforts to #preventdrowning. The program also highlighted the participation of representatives from the EquiBeing Foundation, a pioneering organization dedicated to enabling persons with disabilities to maximize their potential. Their involvement underscored the program's commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that water safety knowledge reaches every community member, regardless of ability. Further, Ms. Devika B S B. S., hazard analyst at the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority, brought the program to a close with heartfelt thanks to all participants and supporters. "ആരും മുങ്ങി മരിക്കരുത്, പ്രതിരോധിക്കാം നമുക്ക്” മുങ്ങിമരണ സംഭവങ്ങളിലെ ഭയാനകമായ വർദ്ധനവ് തടയുന്നതിനായി, കേരള സംസ്ഥാന ദുരന്ത നിവാരണ അതോറിറ്റി (കെഎസ്ഡിഎംഎ) ജൂലൈ 25-ന് മുങ്ങിമരണ പ്രതിരോധനത്തിനായി ഒരു സമഗ്ര പരിശീലന പരിപാടി സംഘടിപ്പിച്ചു. മുങ്ങിമരണ പ്രതിരോധനത്തിന്റെയും  ജലസുരക്ഷയുടെയും സന്ദേശം സമൂഹത്തിലേക്ക് ഫലപ്രദമായി പ്രചരിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിന് വിദ്യാർത്ഥികൾക്കിടയിൽ പുതിയ തലമുറയിലെ ജലസുരക്ഷാ വക്താക്കളെ വളർത്തിയെടുക്കുക എന്നതാണ് ഈ പരിപാടിയിലൂടെ ലക്ഷ്യമിടുന്നത്. ജല-സുരക്ഷിത കേരളത്തിന്റെ അടിയന്തര ആവശ്യകത ഊന്നിപ്പറയുന്ന പ്രവർത്തനത്തിന് ആഹ്വാനം ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ട് കെഎസ്ഡിഎംഎ മെമ്പർ സെക്രട്ടറി, ഡോ. ശേഖർ എൽ. കുര്യാക്കോസ് പരിപാടി ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്തു. മുങ്ങിമരണങ്ങൾ തടയുന്നതിന് ജലസുരക്ഷയെ ചുറ്റിപ്പറ്റിയുള്ള തയ്യാറെടുപ്പും ജാഗ്രതയും പരിപോഷിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്റെ പ്രാധാന്യവും അദ്ദേഹം ചൂണ്ടികാണിച്ചു. ഈ അറിവ് പ്രചരിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിലും സമൂഹത്തെ ശാക്തീകരിക്കുന്നതിലും കുട്ടികളുടെ പങ്ക് മെമ്പർ സെക്രട്ടറി അടിവരയിട്ടു പറഞ്ഞു. പരിശീലനം കർശനമായ സുരക്ഷാ പ്രോട്ടോക്കോളുകൾ പാലിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് നീന്തലില് വൈദഗ്ധ്യ പരിശീലനം ലഭിച്ച പരിചയസമ്പന്നരായവർ ക്ലാസ്സുകൾക്ക് നേതൃത്വം നൽകി. ആപ്ദ മിത്ര ടീമിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ പ്രായോഗിക പരിശീലനങ്ങൾ നടത്തി, ജില്ലാ മെഡിക്കൽ ടീം ഓൺ-സൈറ്റ് പിന്തുണ നൽകി. ജലസുരക്ഷാ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ രൂപപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതിൽ യുവശബ്ദങ്ങൾക്കായി ഒരു വേദി സൃഷ്ടിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് അവരുടെ ആശങ്കകളും ചോദ്യങ്ങളും പങ്കിടാനും ഈ പരിപാടി ഒരു വേദിയായി. സംസ്ഥാന പ്രോജക്ട് ഓഫീസർ ഡോ.മിഥില മല്ലിക പരിപാടിയുടെ ഭാവി പാത വിശദീകരിച്ചു. കെഎസ്ഡിഎംഎ പ്രതിബദ്ധതയോട് ഭിന്നശേഷിക്കാരെ  ഉൾക്കൊള്ളുന്ന ഇൻക്ലൂസിവ് ദുരന്ത ലഘൂകരണ പ്രവർത്തങ്ങളുമായി ഒത്തുചേർന്ന്, മുങ്ങിമരണം തടയുന്നതിനുള്ള വിപുലമായ സാമൂഹിക ശ്രമങ്ങളുടെ നിർണായക ഘടകമെന്ന നിലയിൽ കാഴ്ച വൈകല്യമുള്ളവർ, കുട്ടികൾ, സ്ത്രീകൾ എന്നിവരുൾപ്പെടെ ദുർബല വിഭാഗങ്ങൾക്കായി മുന്നിൽകണ്ടുകൊണ്ട് ജല സുരക്ഷാ ബോധവൽക്കരണ പരിപാടികളുടെ ആവശ്യകതയും ഊന്നിപ്പറഞ്ഞു. ഭിന്നശേഷിക്കാരെ അവരുടെ കഴിവുകൾ പരമാവധിയാക്കാൻ പ്രാപ്തരാക്കുന്ന ഒരു പയനിയറിംഗ് ഓർഗനൈസേഷനായ Equibeing Foundation-ൽ നിന്നുള്ള പ്രതിനിധികളുടെ പങ്കാളിത്തവും പ്രോഗ്രാം എടുത്തുകാണിച്ചു. അവരുടെ പങ്കാളിത്തം, ഭിന്നശേഷിക്കാരെ ഉൾക്കൊള്ളാനുള്ള പരിശീലന പരിപാടിയുടെ പ്രതിബദ്ധതയ്ക്ക് അടിവരയിടുന്നു, ജല സുരക്ഷാ അറിവ് എല്ലാ കമ്മ്യൂണിറ്റി അംഗങ്ങളിലും, കഴിവ് പരിഗണിക്കാതെ തന്നെ എത്തിച്ചേരുന്നുവെന്ന് ഉറപ്പാക്കുന്നു. തുടർന്ന്, കേരള സംസ്ഥാന ദുരന്ത നിവാരണ അതോറിറ്റിയിലെ ഹസാർഡ് അനലിസ്റ്റായ കുമാരി ദേവിക ബി.എസ്. പങ്കെടുത്തവർക്കും പിന്തുണച്ചവർക്കും നന്ദി പ്രകാശിപ്പിച്ചു. #worlddrowningprevention2024 #keraladrowningprevention2024 #watersafety

🌊 "Anyone can drown, but no one should" We are pleased to announce that the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority will host a drowning prevention awareness exercise for #WorldDrowningPreventionDay on July 25, 2024, at 10:00 AM, at the Jimmy George Indoor Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Professional lifesavers and swimming experts will demonstrate safe water interaction techniques. The hands-on training for the event will be led by swimming experienced professionals: Mr Shaji K.S. (Swimming Coach), Ms Sareh Sadat Moosavi Razi (Free Diving Instructor), and Mr P.K. Rejimon (Fire and Rescue Officer). Students from organizations such as the NATIONAL CADET CORPS - India, National Service Scheme, The Bharat Scouts and Guides, Nehru Yuva Kendra  Sangathan, and Students Police Cadet in Thiruvananthapuram district will participate in the event.
