🚸 Front of mind in our forthcoming April issue is how #children again are caught in the cross-fire of current geopolitical decisions 🚸 Published online ahead of the April issue: 📖 Our Editorial discusses how #America's children deserve a credible plan for better health https://lnkd.in/dd-ik3Xp 🌍 And we reflect on how the USAID funding freeze is affecting #children globally https://lnkd.in/dJW6J33c #Children #GlobalChildHealth #ChildAndAdolescentHealth

🌎 America's #children deserve a credible plan for better health 🌎 📣 Last night we published our April editorial a little early to draw attention to the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) Commission established by US President Donald Trump in an executive order on Feb 13, 2025. The so-called MAHA Commission has an initial focus on children: a timely and bold ambition to 2understand and…[end] childhood chronic disease". But details available so far are worrying and could undermine, rather than improve, child health in the USA. A government serious about child health and tackling childhood chronic illness would emphasise a holistic approach, including both prevention and treatment; would be inclusive, ensuring all children in America could benefit from access to new research findings; and would champion vaccine uptake. But the executive order, and concurrent actions by government officials, show this will not be the case. To reverse the trajectory of poor health, America's children deserve a credible plan built on solid science and a commitment to meeting young people's needs in all their diversity. Heightened pressure from all stakeholders—including organised action from parents and young people—must hold the US Government to account and ensure the MAHA Commission serves America's children. 🎙️ This month The Lancet Child & Adolescent Health is in conversation with Deborah Fry about #OnlineChildhoodSexualExploitationAndAbuse Takeaways: 📊 #OCSEA is closer to all of us than we think - 1 in 12 children report OCSEA in the past year and 1 in 6 in their lifetime (<18 years). 🛟 "It happens because we allow it to happen" - we all need to open the way for non-judgemental conversations with children and young people about #OCSEA and we need to expect "safety by design" in online platforms, the same way we expect safety in our homes, workplaces, roads, appliances, and medicines we use. Listen at the link below or wherever you get your podcasts and find the related article estimating global prevalence of OCSEA here https://lnkd.in/dJ-yr2uK Deborah Fry Childlight - Global Child Safety Institute The University of Edinburgh https://lnkd.in/d_b3ZnBU

🆕 Comment highlighting the need to tailor organ dysfunction criteria for critically ill #ChildrenWithCancer 🩸 Organ dysfunction in children with cancer or post-haematopoietic cell transplantation illness is unique from other #Paediatric patients in terms of cause, biological mechanisms, associated mortality risk increase, and responsiveness to specific treatments. 💡 The #PODIUM criteria and #PhoenixSepsisScore together represent the most evidence-based scores to date for paediatric critical care. But for #ChildrenWithCancer these ought to be adapted to achieve greater meaning and precision. The authors call for action from the #PaediatricCriticalCare community to ensure that future criteria, and their application, are tailored to the specific needs of young oncology patients.
