Envisioning an exceptional and vibrant future for Africa’s aviation sector, Ethiopian Airlines has launched plans to deliver one of Africa’s most ambitious new airports, in Abusera. With an ultimate capacity of 110 million passengers a year, the new airport will quadruple the capacity of Bole International Airport. A critical element of Ethiopian Airlines’ 15-year strategic plan to become one of the most competitive aviation groups in the world, the state-of-the-art airport will revolutionise air travel in Ethiopia and cement the country’s position as the crossroads of the world’s most rapidly expanding air travel markets. Dar is incredibly honored to be leading a consortium of world-renowned signature architects and aviation specialists — including Zaha Hadid Architects, Pascall+Watson, and Dar’s sister Sidara companies TYLin and Landrum & Brown — in a technical advisory and consultancy contract to support Ethiopian Airlines in this transformational endeavor. Little Debbie is churning in the Gulf… And it ain’t baked goods y’all… Fourth Named Storm in the #Atlantic of 25 Named Storms predicted by #NOAA for 2024. I did a recent talk in which I provided response to a question oft asked of the Director of Resiliency; “why do we need #resiliency?” En answer, I noted the 2025 NOAA forecast, evermore this latest storm, #Houston derecho and #Hurricane Beryl provide object lesson. Updated timing for release of $1.8 million #FAA funded Houston Airport System Resiliency Master Plan study is August 2024. Having won this grant 07/2024 I am, along with consultants Landrum & Brown and Ricondo & Associates, Inc. spring loaded and excited to begin these important works on behalf of The People of The City of Houston. This year, NOAA predicts a very high likelihood (85% chance) of an above-normal Atlantic hurricane season (2), with 17-25 named storms (average is 14), 8-13 hurricanes (average is 7), and 4-7 major hurricanes (average is 3) (3). At L&B, internships are fast-paced and can be career-defining, where education meets real-world application. I started at L&B as an intern 15+ years ago while I was studying at the University of Cincinnati and led our internship program for the Cincinnati office. L&B believes in investing in talent and providing a platform for growth, ensuring that each internship is a transformative experience for all involved."   Thank you to all our interns for your hard work and commitment. Did you know? Back in 1986, Landrum and Brown provided a Master Plan Study to Denver International Airport to plan out their runway expansion project. Throughout the planning, the airport chose its now-iconic pin-wheel shaped airport in order to help mitigate noise pollution and environmental impact. Check out some of the proposed options from our archives, and read more about the runway planning here: https://lnkd.in/g-P37nGE

L&B Recommits to its New Strategy for Asia Pacific For L&B, it was wonderful reconnecting with many familiar faces at the Passenger Terminal EXPO & CONFERENCE ✈️ in Frankfurt. It was an opportunity to speak to many of you in person and to add clarity around L&B’s new strategy for Asia Pacific. Globally, L&B has served our airport and aviation clients for 75 years, including the past 25 years in Asia Pacific - we are very proud of this legacy and are determined to preserve it. One of the secrets to our longevity has been our willingness and ability to adapt in an industry that never stands still. Earlier this year, we restructured and streamlined our physical offices and contracting entities while retaining core Asia-based resources across the various service lines. Our Shanghai Office will provide production and analytical support to our project staff in Australia and Southeast Asia. At PTE, it was great to meet so many people at the Sidara booth (L&B’s parent company), where the full range of the Group companies’ service credentials in aviation could be highlighted, including architecture, engineering, IT, BHS, security, sustainability, fuel facilities, and project management. This group strength can be leveraged to the benefit of clients who are seeking multi-service capabilities. Nonetheless, L&B’s approach is to remain agile, including providing traditional standalone planning services and teaming with external partners where these best meet client needs. To facilitate our new APAC Strategy, Gary Gibb has taken on a new role as our Regional Growth Manager — Asia Pacific based in Melbourne. Gary has been freed up from corporate responsibilities to focus on client needs. Peter A. Jolicoeur (周力克) will also take on a new APAC role in support of this initiative and provide a key link to our Shanghai Office where he is based. We are excited about the future and look forward to discussing our approach in more detail with our clients and partners! Landrum & Brown #APAC #PTE

Yesterday was a special day at the Cincinnati office as we welcomed our 3rd-grade Adopt A Class kids for a thrilling field trip! We spent the morning diving into the fascinating world of finances, aviation, and environmental concerns linked to airports. Throughout the 2023-2024 school year, we've had the joy of teaching them monthly classes centered around STEM topics, with a special focus on how they intersect with the aviation industry. It's been an incredible journey of learning and growth for both us and the students, and yesterday's visit was the cherry on top! Can't wait to see the impact these bright young minds will make in the future! #STEMeducation #AviationIndustry #FutureLeaders #AdoptaClass
