“Deciding to leave my career in Germany and start anew in the United States was one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever made. “When I arrived, I thought it would be easy to find footing, but after a couple of months passed, I found myself feeling confused as to why no one would respond to my applications.” For Donata, everything changed when she connected with a career coach. She said: “This career coach [Sister Medler] helped me not only polish my resume but also conducted mock interviews and offered tailored advice for navigating the American job market. All on a volunteer basis. I learned so much from her! “Additionally, she recommended I attend the daily meetings of the Active Job Search (AJS) Group of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I’m so glad I did! “They [the Active Job Search Group] provided a supportive community of volunteers who shared invaluable insights and encouragement with me when I felt at my lowest. “A crucial lesson I learned was the importance of seeking help and networking with professionals. By scheduling informational meetings with experienced individuals, I gained confidence in interacting with strangers. One of these informational interviews eventually led me to my current role. “The AJS Group, comprising seasoned career coaches with extensive industry experience, played a pivotal role in my journey. Their recommendations and networking opportunities were instrumental in landing my job. I’m grateful for their support. “This wouldn’t have been possible without the support of a nurturing community. I not only transitioned my career successfully to the US but found peace and comfort in knowing that God provided me with so many loving people that I can finally feel at home.” - Donata W. While browsing the Church’s website, Jordan Foutin stumbled upon the Starting a Side Business group from Employment Services. He was intrigued by the idea of venturing into entrepreneurship with the goal of his enterprise becoming his full-time endeavor. He joined the group and has had a fantastic experience. According to Jordan, one of the program’s standout aspects is the opportunity to learn from fellow entrepreneurs’ successes and setbacks. Understanding their diverse backgrounds, educational paths, and professional challenges has provided Jordan with invaluable insights into entrepreneurship. He described the group as “a treasure trove of like-minded and hearted individuals united by the goal of positively impacting the world.” “If anybody is considering ‘could I attend the Starting Your Own Business workshop?’ My answer is ‘Yes. Do it. You won’t regret it.’” Jordan has since launched a few products, and his business continues to grow daily. His story is a testament to the power of community, mentorship, and lifelong learning. It reminds us that anyone can pursue entrepreneurial dreams with the proper support and mindset. We’re grateful for his participation in the group! Find the Starting a Side Business group here: https://lnkd.in/gbsZhDvz #EmploymentServices #CareerAdvice #Entrepreneurship

“I spent 22 years as a federal probation officer focused on getting people to reenter the workforce successfully after prison or halfway houses, and I love that I get to use that experience to help all kinds of people finding work now. “A good part of my day is spent recruiting and training our employment advisers, who are volunteers with expertise in job-search skills and career exploration. These employment advisers all have incredible firsthand experience and can help anyone find a job—from someone just entering the workforce to a C-suite executive. “I LOVE what I do. It is so rewarding to get to help people find their next step in employment. It really feels like I’m helping people be more self-reliant and be able to provide for themselves. “I’m so passionate about what we do, and whatever I can do to help the cause, I’m all in.”— Michael Baker, Regional Employment Manager for Employment Services Learn more about Employment Services and our offerings here: 👇 https://lnkd.in/gNEZF3fJ #EmploymentServices #CareerHelp #CareerSearch

After 40 years of marriage, raising eight children, and taking care of her aging father, Tamra Kendrick needed employment to earn sufficient income. She had not been employed since before her marriage but had thousands of hours of volunteer work under her belt. She was very much involved and had a great résumé of community and political involvement. She had few computer skills, so she signed up for a computer skills class. After seeing an ad for a recreation coordinator in a nearby city, Employment Services missionaries spent time helping Tamra tailor her resume and submit her application. “Sister Poppa helped me with some type of a résumé program that made sure that my résumé had the right words for the job description, and that was amazing. We sent a different résumé to every single job I applied for.” Regarding interviews, Tamra said: “Sister Poppa let me practice with the other employees at Employment Services. They did mock interviews with me to boost my confidence.” Tamra brought a beautiful bouquet to the Employment Services Center to thank everyone for their help and announced the city had hired her as the recreation coordinator! We were so excited as she rang the bell! It was a wonderful culmination of her hard work and determination. A while later, Tamra was let go from her job at the city. Tamra contacted Sister Poppa, and shortly after, she found Tamra a job to apply for. Tamra applied and was hired on the spot the same day! At first, Tamra said she was bitter about being let go from her role as the recreation coordinator. “Then I realized the Lord is in charge. He orchestrated this for a learning process so that I could experience the bitter to appreciate the sweet. “Sister Poppa—I couldn’t have done anything without her. She found me a job that taught me what I needed to know for this other job. It was nothing short of a tender mercy. She was so involved, and it has been such a blessing.” Click here to learn more about employment Services: https://lnkd.in/gMH7u7fj #AJS #SuccessStory #JobSearchHelp

“I’m really good at being an employment adviser because I’ve had literally over 50 jobs in my life. I have real-world experience that helps our candidates. “It’s wonderful to be able to help people to handle that temporal area of their life. It’s wonderful because we are helping people, and it’s terrible because we cannot help enough. “We can point people in the right direction, we can tweak résumés, and we can give them advice from our life experiences, but ultimately, their future is not in our hands, and we are only here to help how we can. “Sometimes I feel like we have to do a ‘Princess Diaries’ makeover on someone with their job search—and some need more help than others—but the first thing we do is give them hope. I let them know that they have value. We want to give them hope that it’ll come to pass. “We have a bell in our center, and people can come and ring the bell when they get a job. We usually ring that bell every day or every other day at least. We have success all the time. “And sometimes it isn’t even the ultimate success in getting employment. The first couple successes that we almost always universally have is we give them hope, we give them a little perspective, or we try and help them to do something they didn’t know how to do or haven’t done yet (like writing or improving résumés or interview skills). “We’re succeeding on all of those smaller levels, and hopefully that brings them to the ultimate success of having another job.” —Elder Porter You can connect with an adviser (maybe it will be Elder Porter!) from Employment Services here: https://lnkd.in/gtWVFqJ3 #JobSearchAdvice #JobTips #CareerGoals

“Just recently, I decided to change jobs. From there, I looked up Employment Services, and that’s when I was like, sure, I’ll meet with a facilitator to see what I’m missing. “The main things I’m looking for with Employment Services are resources, accountability, and networking. “I know a lot about the methods of interviewing and all the résumé stuff and what you should do, but I feel like Employment Services had more resources I didn’t know about. “Like the weekly and daily focus groups [Active Job Search groups], where people have to be accountable and support each other in their job searches. “And Sister Hill was able to help me out with a lot, like thinking about people who are in my network that I didn’t consider. She helped me out a ton there and scheduled a follow-up meeting for a few weeks later in person. “I know that the Church is really good at helping people to be self-sufficient, so I think that’s why I decided to come to Employment Services. Of course, there are articles out there saying this is what you do if you want to find a job right now, but it’s not the same support. This is totally personalized to you.” —Stephen, Provo You can connect with an adviser from Employment Services here: https://lnkd.in/gz5ngGHR #jobsearchhelp #jobsearch #careertip

“I just finished a master’s degree in instructional design. I am looking to make that jump to a job in that field. “I’ve come to the Church’s Employment Center every so often over the years anytime I’ve been looking for jobs to help me get through school. “But this is actually in my career, so I’ve been wanting extra help with that job search. “I was excited to see that Sister Hall is here. She has helped me over the years with practicing for interviews, and I was excited to get her help. “She helped me figure out next steps that will help me. I am going to do a me-in-30 seconds and figure out a good flow for that. And then a portfolio and make sure that’s all up to speed. And then I can go into active searching. I’ll meet regularly with her as I look for jobs. So that’s what we established—just organization and where to go next. “It can be overwhelming, like where do I start? But it’s helpful to have someone to guide you through it. “I like coming here because this help is done by the Church. It has that spirit that I like. So this is definitely the first destination I go to whenever I am looking for a job. “It’s a great resource too. It’s great to be able to talk to people and network and people really listen to you. They have a little more time to meet with you personally and get to know you, and there’s a lot of care. I just feel more taken care of.” —NeCole, Provo You can connect with an adviser from Employment Services here: https://lnkd.in/gz5ngGHR #jobsearchadvice #jobtips #careeradvice
