About us

LEE is a diverse network of equity-minded leaders at all stages of life and career. By providing 1:1 coaching, meaningful member-to-member connections, and skill-building opportunities, we help our network members do the work needed to ensure an equitable education for children everywhere – whether that’s organizing within their local communities, exploring careers in policy and advocacy, or pursuing elected office. LEE is a free membership organization currently open to alumni of several partner organizations including Teach For America, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI), New Leaders, Latinos for Education, Urban Teachers, Public Allies, and School Board Partners. LEE believes that when a diverse group of leaders, grounded in a commitment to equity, are in leadership roles, they will serve as a transformative force for and with students and communities. We are an outcomes-oriented organization that operates in an entrepreneurial environment deeply invested in continuous improvement. LEE is honored to have been selected as a LATINA Style 50 Award recipient and a When Work Works award recipient. We are also an Employer of National Service. As back-to-school season begins, we are reminded that our students, educators, and parents have lived with the fear of devastating school shootings for the past 20 years. This does not have to be. We can foster safe, supportive schools—free from gun violence—by addressing the factors that lead to violent incidents and implementing proven strategies that contribute to a healthy school climate. Join us and Everytown for Gun Safety on September 11th to breakdown the scope of gun violence in the United States, focusing on evidence-based solutions that address the underlying causes of school gun violence and that prevent guns from coming into schools in the first place. Participants will leave the session with information about policies they can advocate for at the local and state level to improve school safety. Interested in learning more? Navigating FAFSA’s updates can be challenging for all students, but low-income students of color often face even greater hurdles. Recent changes to the FAFSA process, while aiming to streamline the application process, introduced new complexities and issues that disproportionately affect those with fewer resources and less access to support. These students frequently encounter additional barriers in understanding and completing the forms, further widening the equity gap. It’s important that institutions address these issues but also actively work to ensure that all students, regardless of their background, have an equal shot at securing the financial aid they need. To truly support every student, we must address these disparities and advocate for a more equitable system that ensures all students have a fair chance at securing the aid they need.
