Our residents in the Memory Special Care Unit greatly benefit from the implementation of the Montessori Method. Thank you Sean Kirst, from the The Buffalo News, for telling the incredible story of our resident Marcia, a dedicated nurse and role model for so many. #nursing #buffalonews

On the #FourthofJuly, at 94, Marcia Barnes, a pioneering nurse from #Buffalo who worked closely with wounded veterans after #WWII, recalls how her dad, MIA after being wounded in ##WWI, finally made it home - and became a model for the empathy and energy that drives her whole life, even now. Marcia has lost her eyesight to glaucoma - but the power of her stories, and the clarity of a higher form of vision, led the CNY Nurses Honor Guard to pack a meeting room at Loretto at the Nottingham, near Syracuse, during a recent ceremony that honored Marcia's groundbreaking work ... and profound understanding ... involving vets who endured severe wounds in the war. By the way, Marcia's grandparents lived on Humboldt Parkway, she remembers vividly when horseback riders used that park, before it was destroyed for an expressway - and one of her great dreams is having it rebuilt. Breaking News: The FDA has granted approval of Kisunla (donanemab) for the treatment of people living with early symptomatic Alzheimer’s disease. We celebrate Kisunla’s approval as more options mean greater opportunity for more time. This is the third approval of an Alzheimer’s treatment that changes the underlying course of the disease. bit.ly/3XIyyvf

    • "Having multiple treatment options is the kind of advancement we've all been waiting for—all of us who have been touched, even blindsided, by this difficult and devastating disease."

Thank you to everyone who came out to Community Residences' 40th Anniversary celebration today on South Salina Street today. This program has allowed hundreds of adults with psychiatric disabilities to reclaim their lives, while in a safe and nurturing environment. To many, it has also become a place that they can call home, full of people that they can call family. We'd also like to give a special thanks to CNYCentral WSTM NBC3, WTVH CBS5 & CW6 and WAER Public Media for being on site to cover this very special moment for us today. #CommunityResidences #40thAnniversary

The memorial tree offers donors a way to honor and remember loved ones. Located at a Loretto location of your choice, this tree grows as wooden leaves are added to honor their legacy and is a reminder of their accomplishment and memories shared. The branches, symbolizing the extended family, grow continuously in the spirit of the Loretto community. This tree serves as a focal point for our visitors, reminding us that we are all connected by the same vision: Visit the link to honor someone you love: https://bit.ly/3XHTOBm 𝐾𝑎𝑡ℎ𝑦 𝑆𝑞𝑢𝑖𝑟𝑒𝑠, 𝑏𝑒𝑙𝑜𝑤 𝑖𝑛 𝑝𝑢𝑟𝑝𝑙𝑒 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑓𝑎𝑚𝑖𝑙𝑦 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑓𝑟𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑑𝑠, ℎ𝑜𝑛𝑜𝑟𝑠 ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑓𝑎𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟, 𝐶ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑙𝑒𝑠 "𝐵𝑢𝑑" 𝑆𝑞𝑢𝑖𝑟𝑒𝑠, 𝑜𝑛 𝑤ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑤𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑑 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑏𝑒𝑒𝑛 ℎ𝑖𝑠 96𝑡ℎ 𝑏𝑖𝑟𝑡ℎ𝑑𝑎𝑦, 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑎 𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑏𝑢𝑡𝑒 𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑓 𝑖𝑛 ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑛𝑎𝑚𝑒 𝑎𝑡 𝑃𝐴𝐶𝐸.

In recognition of The Longest Day, our Chief Nursing Officer Dr. Joelle Margrey, spoke with CNY Central about our first year implementing the Montessori approach in our memory care facilities. With the Montessori approach, we are able to empower our memory care residents by encouraging them to make their own choices, maintain their independence and continue to live meaningful lives in their communities. Thank you CNYCentral WSTM NBC3, WTVH CBS5 & CW6 for the coverage and for highlighting The Longest Day as we continue to fight the darkness of Alzheimer's and dementia in turn for a brighter future. #endalz https://bit.ly/3VUVki5

Members of Loretto’s new Cultural Advisory Committee gathered for their first meeting earlier this month to focus their collective voices on ways we can improve our overall company culture by making positive changes that embrace collective ideas and traditions, with a goal to create a more inclusive workplace. Each member signed their commitment around a shared goal to create a workplace culture where people feel valued, respected, and have a deep sense of belonging. Over the coming months, members will bring the collective voice of their peers to the table to represent what’s most important to our Loretto family. They will also listen to feedback from employee focus groups and then work together to prioritize the best ideas that will be most meaningful to all. Representatives also serve as a sounding board as new ideas or issues arise that could improve or impact our environment.
