Senior Copy Editor Shauna Miller’s favorite word is “conspire.” With Latin roots that mean “breathing together,” this somehow feels just right for a copy editor, whose level-headed impact is felt across the entire team. Shauna’s love of language and respect for the grind of writing attract her to the work and world-building of science fiction author Octavia E. Butler. Whether he’s playing around in Photoshop or playing music, Senior Art Director Ben Eversmann is no stranger to instruments. Comedian George Carlin may not have coined the phrase “it’s funny ’cause it’s true,” but that’s what makes him a creative hero to our EVP of strategy, Geoffrey Director. Curious how else Carlin’s style helps inform Geoffrey’s approach as a strategist? Find out here: https://lnkd.in/gQhWJHgj

Tight budgets, scrappiness and the scientification of advertising have become justifications (or excuses?) for art directors to tame their craft and reduce their roles to merely finding the right stock art and illustrating the copy line. Visionary art direction — the kind that makes the visual the concept — doesn’t need to be expensive. From VW to Lego, and even Apple’s iPod silhouettes print ads, are reminders of why we (I am an art director) got into this business in the first place: to tell brand stories in disruptive and artful ways (quoting Lee Clow!).

A lot of our clients are thinking about sustainability, so we are too. To celebrate #EarthDay, we asked Manifesters to share some of the most interesting nuggets they’ve come across in the process (spoiler alert: that tends to happen with a team of journalists). If this is the kind of stuff you can’t get enough of, check out our article about why interesting content is good content from our EVP of strategy, Geoffrey Director: https://lnkd.in/eh6RAvy

This Chicago-born artist’s Tuskegee Airmen-inspired depictions of Black children help Manifest Associate Editorial Director Akeya Dickson’s imagination soar. She hasn’t yet introduced aviator goggles into her creative routine, but she does use journaling, meditation and very strong coffee to get her engines revving. Read on here: https://lnkd.in/gzGZ-PVk

What do a quenelle of basil ice cream and a perfectly turned phrase have in common? If you want them done right, turn to Associate Editorial Director Autumn Whitefield-Madrano (she/her). Learn how a pioneering pastry chef inspired Autumn’s own past life as a pastry chef, and still does, in her creative work at Manifest: https://lnkd.in/gjyBQFkv #creativity #DigitalMarketing #ContentMarketing

None of our four offices fall into the path of totality, but Manifesters across the country are looking forward to today’s solar eclipse, and hoping the weather holds. If you want to learn more about why we’re so excited, and what a 400-degree baked potato has to do with it, read Manifest Editorial Director Didi Gluck's interview with renowned physicist and astronomer George Greenstein. The potato’s just the tip of the totality: https://lnkd.in/gpjqxbpc
