The Mass General Brigham Disability Employee Inclusion Alliance (DEIA) and Community Care Van team celebrated ADA Day last week at Boston’s City Hall Plaza with Mayor Michelle Wu. The day commemorates the 34th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The DEIA team spoke with visitors, providing links and information about careers at Mass General Brigham and sharing details about the Massachusetts General Hospital Lurie Center ASPIRE program including vocational preparation resources for people with autism. They distributed injury cold packs and hand sanitizer, and, given the abundance of sunshine, visitors were also grateful to receive sunscreen and sunglasses. Our Community Care Van team attended to 17 people over the two hours, offering care for blood pressure and diabetes, along with social risk mitigation. “Many people who stopped by our table told us how happy they were with the care they received at Mass General Brigham and appreciated being able to visit the care van,” said Zary Amirhosseini, manager of the Mass General disability program at the Office of Belonging and Engagement, co-chair of Disability Employee Inclusion Alliance ERG, and member of Mayor Wu’s Disability Advisory Board. “It was a great day with many organizations engaging with the community to share programs and activities that provide improved access and services for citizens with disabilities,” said Lynne Brady Wagner, Mass General Brigham health equity director, specialty hospitals and ERAP services lines, enterprise disability clinical equity lead. “We were proud to represent Mass General Brigham and look forward to returning to this annual celebration honoring the rights of people with disabilities.”

The Mass General Brigham community was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jack Connors Jr., a visionary leader and Mass General Brigham founding Board Chair. Jack served as chair of the Brigham and Women's Hospital Board of Trustees from 1992 to 1996, when he was invited to serve as the chair of the Mass General Brigham board—a role he held for 16 years before becoming chair emeritus in 2012. Mass General Brigham mobilized incident command and other leadership teams across the organization to manage our response to the CrowdStrike incident. We have deployed hundreds of technicians to our hospitals, healthcare centers, and outpatient clinics to restore access to the systems and devices that were impacted by the software failure early this morning. We are doing everything possible to restore the electronic systems that support our patient care delivery across our system. Our teams will continue to work throughout the night to implement solutions and, at this time, we expect to be operational tomorrow. We apologize for the inconvenience that this has caused to the many patients who had scheduled visits with us today. ------------------------------- A major worldwide software outage has affected many of our systems at Mass General Brigham, as well as many major businesses across the country. Due to the severity of this issue, all previously scheduled non-urgent surgeries, procedures, and medical visits are cancelled today. Mass General achieved, for the second time, accreditation for the Transition to Practice Program by the American Nursing Credentialing Center’s Practice to Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP). The Transition to Practice (TPP) has welcomed over 800 newly licensed nurses since our last accreditation four years ago. Since our first accreditation in Spring 2020, Mass General has welcomed over 850 nurse residents. Jen Curran, DNP, RN, NPD-BD, the program director of Mass General’s TPP, stated, “Our TPP results from a collective effort by many people at Mass General who work collaboratively. The accreditation of the TPP ensures that all newly licensed nurses can experience a robust residency program focused on nursing excellence, makes the transition from student to independent Registered Nurse easier and improves patient outcomes.”

Maurizio Fava, MD, psychiatrist-in-chief at Mass General, discusses our hospital being ranked #1 in the nation for Psychiatry in 2024-25 by U.S. News & World Report in this Q&A.
