From “inner peace” to “dinner please,” Dragon Warrior Po certainly understands how hard it can be to meditate. Do you? In a world teeming with promises of wellness through meditation, Carly Newberg offers a refreshingly candid exploration of the emotional turbulence often encountered on the path to inner peace. As a beginner, we might find ourselves perplexed by the absence of the touted serenity and instead confronted with frustration and anger after trying to meditate. This was the case for Newberg. Yet, amidst the confusion, a sage counsel resonated: perhaps she was on the right track. Through introspection and insight from experts, Newberg delves into the psychology of meditation, uncovering its transformative potential in acknowledging and processing difficult emotions. Acknowledging such difficult emotions is mindfulness, too! We invite you to embrace the discomfort as an integral step toward self-awareness and mastering meditation. 🇮🇳 💜 Thank you so much Rituraj Sarkar, cast and crew in #WestBengal for braving the #heatwave to bring Medicinal Media your #somatic #meditation #magic! Sohalia is a 4-year-old child from West Bengal, #India who loves animals, books, and anything that rhymes. Last year, Sohalia’s dog Pogo got confused while they were playing, and bit her. It was a big lesson in #somatichealing and #mindfulness for the whole family, and an opportunity for Sohalia to learn more about loving deeply from a distance — allowing for #patience, #empathy, and space for #truelove to thrive. When have you had to take a step back in order to love — and be loved — more deeply? Summertime sadness is real. In this season dominated by heatwaves and social media feeds filled with vibrant escapades, the reality of summertime blues hits hard for some. This article takes the lid off the pressure-cooker expectations of summer, expectations that make us feel like every summer day should feel like vacation. Recognizing summer depression, or seasonal affective disorder (SAD), is important. Understanding why summertime blues happen in the first place — from disrupted routines and FOMO to physiological changes due to heat — is key. Through embracing routines or seeking solace in curated spaces, there are a plethora of ways to temper the sting the season might bring your way. It's about finding comfort in cool sanctuaries and soothing scents, creating playlists that speak to the soul, and nourishing oneself with self-care rituals. Seeking therapy and social support is also vital, reminding us that we're not alone in navigating summertime struggles. As Lana’s hit song demonstrates, this experience is not one we need to navigate alone. There are at least 110 ongoing armed conflicts in the world today. For any victim of war, the horror is incomparable and the impacts on mental health are undisputed. Today Medicinal Media examines one story of resilient, creative #journalism amid #war. This piece takes us to the #independent #media outlet #Lyuk in #Kharkiv, #Ukraine's second-largest city, currently in the front lines under constant bombardment. Lyuk is an independent online media organization that “introduces Kharkiv to the culture of a new era, illuminates urban processes and problems, stimulates changes in the city and society, and gathers a community of #changemakers and #activists on one platform.” Lyuk is named after legendary freedom fighter Luke Skywalker. We're Medicinal Media — a new #nonprofit dedicated to illuminating the art and science of beneficial media. The future of traumatic brain injury (TBI) care is looking brighter. In this article, Sanaphay Rattanavong uncovers the cutting-edge advancements transforming the landscape of TBI treatment, merging pioneering neuroscience research with innovative digital therapies and widespread app accessibility. Central to this exploration is the transformative potential of deep brain stimulation (DBS) — a revolutionary technique that offers new hope for cognitive recovery. Groundbreaking studies from esteemed institutions, such as Weill Cornell Medicine and Stanford University, reveal how DBS can significantly improve cognitive functions in those suffering from chronic TBI, challenging the long-held belief that severe brain injuries lead to irreversible deficits. Personalized digital apps also play a burgeoning role in TBI management. These platforms are redefining recovery by providing sophisticated, tailored support accessible to individuals worldwide. Medicinal Media recently hosted an intimate series of performances on a misty evening in Topanga Canyon, by legendary artists Bianca Sapetto and Chris Lancaster. Bianca Sapetto - #choreographer, #director, #aerialist, #dancer, and #teacher - began her career as a rhythmic #gymnast, claiming five gold medal U.S. National Championships titles and competing the world over for the U.S.A. Bianca studied comparative religion at Amherst College before “running away” to join the #circus. You may have seen her choreography at the Grammy Awards, as a stuntwoman on 成龍 Jackie Chan’s #stunt team, flying above your head at the Cirque du Soleil, or #meditating on the #beach in her hometown of #losangeles. Chrissy Lancaster is a #composer and electric #cellist who primarily works with #samplers and #layers, often duplicating the sound of his own #cello, which he plays using a custom pink bow, to create a song. Chrissy sometimes synthesizes #synesthesia into his work, by playing the #sounds of #colors as he experiences them.
