This National Disability Employment Awareness Month, Melwood is proud to tell our story and the stories of our employees who, for more than 60 years, have been breaking down barriers and pushing past stereotypes about what is possible and who belongs in the workforce. People with disabilities want to work, are qualified to work and—as Derek demonstrates—are perfect for the job. #NDEAM

Exciting news! Melwood is thrilled to announce that Camp Accomplish has been named a winner in the 2024 Washington Parent Media Picks awards! After we joined forces with Children's National Hospital, Camp Accomplish became even more magical. We won in the categories of “Day Camps—Maryland” and “Sleepaway Camps.” This incredible honor wouldn’t be possible without our amazing community! A huge thank you to all the families, counselors, medical staff, and everyone who helped make this summer so magical for our campers. This National Disability Employment Awareness Month, Melwood is proud to tell our story and the stories of our employees who, for more than 60 years, have been breaking down barriers and pushing past stereotypes about what is possible and who belongs in the workforce. We know that people with disabilities are perfect for the job – and we also know that when organizations recruit, hire, and retain workers with disabilities, they report higher profit margins, greater employee morale, lower turnover, and safer working conditions. #NDEAW #DisabilityEmployment #Melwood

Melwood’s Camp Accomplish collaboration with Children's National Hospital, Curley Company, and Contrast & Co. was recognized by the prestigious Nonprofit Communications Awards and CSR & Diversity Awards, hosted by Ragan Communications and PR Daily. Our collaboration won the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Communications award at PR Daily’s Nonprofit Communications Awards last Friday, and recognizes the massive rebranding effort that transformed the identity of Camp Accomplish as a summer camp for children with and without disabilities into a summer experience for children with and without disabilities and chronic health conditions. Summer camp is the place you go to find yourself, learn who you are, meet and make friends, and create memories that will last a lifetime. For any child, the experience of summer camp can be unique and profound. But for children who traditionally face barriers, including those with disabilities and chronic health conditions, summer camp can be transformative. For more than 25 years, Melwood has provided this kind of life-changing experience for children with and without disabilities at Camp Accomplish, located in Southern Maryland. This year, thanks to an innovative new collaboration with Children's National Hospital, we were able to expand the summer camp experience to children with chronic health conditions as well. Helping even more children and teens build resilience, increase their self confidence, and experience the magic of summer camp is not something we can do alone. That's why we are so grateful to all those who participated in our 5th annual Melwood Champion's Golf Tournament earlier this week, hosted at the Country Club at Woodmore. We especially want to thank Lockton, our first-ever event technology sponsor. Proceeds from this tournament go directly to fund Camp Accomplish, a place where we are all able to grow.
