About us
The MetroHealth System is redefining health care by going beyond medical treatment to improve the foundations of community health and well-being: affordable housing, a cleaner environment, economic opportunity and access to fresh food, convenient transportation, legal help and other services. The system strives to become as good at preventing disease as it is at treating it. Founded in 1837, Cuyahoga County’s safety-net health system operates four hospitals, four emergency departments, more than 20 health centers and 40 additional sites.

Yesterday we celebrated the volunteers of the Patient and Family Advisory (PFA) Program who help us continuously improve as we strive to provide the best possible care to all. The PFA program, established in 2014, has become a valued part of The MetroHealth System culture and helps guide the system’s patient-and-family-centered care approach. Patient and Family Advisors collaborate with MetroHealth employees on policies, programs, environmental design and delivery of care. “Members of the Patient and Family Advisory allow us to hear the true voice of our patients. They are all volunteers; they give up their own time to meet and talk with us,” said Joseph Golob, MD, Executive Vice President, Chief Quality & Safety Officer. “They really have a true dedication to improve our system.” Advisors, often recruited through referrals from MetroHealth staff, meet monthly and are asked to offer their perspectives on patient experience, quality, safety and environmental design. They were consulted during the planning stage for The Glick Center, and their input has influenced the inclusion of resources for families throughout the System. Feedback from the Old Brooklyn Medical Center Senior Care Clinic Patient and Family Council about a need for health-education opportunities for patients led to the recent launch of senior wellness sessions. Founding Patient and Family Advisory Program member Terri Mosley was among those honored at the luncheon. She said her primary care physician invited her to join the program because she knew she had a background in civic involvement. As a patient who had undergone several surgeries at MetroHealth, Terri was well acquainted with the various specialties and departments across the system. “We have been very instrumental as a group in being able to provide a voice for what patients are seeing for the future of MetroHealth,” said Terri, whose many contributions to the program includes participating in workshops to offer input before the opening of the Glick Center. “What's really been a wonderful thing for me is seeing how MetroHealth takes our opinions and does something with them – and the fact that it is still a strong program this many years later.” The PFA Program is always recruiting. To recommend a patient or family members as a Patient and Family Advisor, please email PFA@metrohealth.org.

On Wednesday, State Rep. Marilyn John from Richland County visited our Valley View pharmacy and Bedford neighborhood clinic to learn more about the importance of the 340B program to super safety-net health systems like MetroHealth and the patients and communities we serve. Members from the pharmacy leadership team led the tour. MetroHealth stands behind Rep. John, State Rep. Adam Holmes and State Sen. Bob Hackett in their efforts to pass important legislation that will protect access to the 340B program for safety-net providers.
