Helping families in need of safe, affordable housing.
About us
At Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity, we believe everyone deserves a decent place to live. Together with people in our community, we help families build and improve places to call home. We believe affordable housing plays a critical role in strong and stable communities. In Milwaukee, families are finding it harder than ever to afford a decent place to call home. In fact, nearly 60% of Milwaukee renters are currently living in unaffordable housing paying 40%, 50% and even 70% of their income just to cover the rent. For families living below Milwaukee’s median income, often times that means little is left over for education, savings, or even basic needs. Milwaukee Habitat is here to combat our city’s affordable housing crisis by providing families with an affordable path to safe, stable housing. Affordable housing means more than a decent place to sleep at night. Studies show safe, affordable housing leads to improved health, education and financial stability. By concentrating our efforts in a targeted area, Milwaukee Habitat is not just helping local families, but revitalizing entire neighborhoods. As we build block by block, we aim to decrease crime, increase community engagement, and create vibrant, sustainable neighborhoods. Milwaukee Habitat offers a hand up, rather than a hand out as Habitat homeowners help build their own homes and pay an affordable mortgage.

Komatsu Mining is a long-term partner of Milwaukee Habitat that continues to dedicate time and funds to our mission. We are so grateful for their dedication and hard-working volunteers.

Komatsu Mining volunteers continue to do great work as they are on site siding the walls they raised last week!
And so it begins. Komatsu employees started to raise walls and build porches on our 31st and 32nd Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity homes since 2011. Earlier this summer the walls were “prefabbed” by employees and interns and now comes the real test, how square are those corners and how straight are the walls? Komatsu is proud to partner with Milwaukee Habitat in their mission to address the affordable housing crisis in Milwaukee. By increasing homeownership, we can impact financial stability, educational achievement, and positive health outcomes. Last year, the organization set an ambitious goal to double the number of families served. By 2028, Milwaukee Habitat’s aim is to build 40 new homes per year. In 2022, the organization built 20 homes. In 2023, that number increased to 30. And now, in their 40th year, Habitat is set to build 32 new homes. Employees will continue this work this week and next. Returning to hang drywall, paint and install flooring in the months ahead. #Komatsu #AffordableHousing #Volunteerism #MKE

On Friday, Mayor Cavalier Johnson presented exciting news in our woodshop: the city was awarded a $3.4 million grant from the federal agency, which will be used to develop factory-built, highly-energy efficient affordable homes on city-owned vacant properties. Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity will pilot this initiative by building the first two net-zero homes, which will serve as a proof of concept for the initiative.

What a great team! Thank you for all your hard work.
What better way to spend a Friday than to serve our community?! Today, I had the privilege of working alongside my fantastic teammates to make a difference, learn new skills and help #ChartTheCourse of our community! Philip Meese Joshua Russell and Ms. Jeannette May thanks for joining me today! It’s an honor to be on your team! A huge thank you to Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity for the opportunity to contribute and for your unwavering #CommitmentToCommunity! The four of us had no prior experience laying flooring, but thanks to the great leadership and guidance of our pal Tad, we were able to complete all of the flooring for this beautiful house! I hope you all have a safe and blessed Labor Day Weekend!

Thank you Colder's Furniture, Appliance, and Mattresses!!
Some of our Colder’s team recently had the exciting privilege of stepping away from their daily tasks to join forces with Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity in their mission to make housing in Milwaukee more affordable and more equitable. From framing walls to siding a house, our team rolled up their sleeves, donned hard hats, climbed up ladders, and got to work on giving back to a community we are so grateful to be a part of. Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity has served nearly 1500 local families since 1984. In 2023 alone, they built 30 homes. Their goal is to build 40 homes each year by 2028 as well as expand their new constructions to even more neighborhoods throughout Milwaukee. We’d like to say thank you to our Colder’s family for working hard during hot, muddy summer days and returning to work with sunburns, sore hands, and smiles on their faces. More importantly, thank you to Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity for more than just constructing houses: for building hope, creating stability, and investing in a brighter future for families who need it most. We appreciate the opportunity to contribute to such meaningful work and look forward to continuing our partnership with you!
