Lakewood Health System Trustee Curtis McIlravy was recently recognized by MHA as the Trustee of the Year. Curtis was recognized for the leadership he exhibited on his hospital board, which contributed significantly to the health of the Staples community.

Allina Health is addressing youth substance abuse through education and intervention programs. Over the next three years, Allina Health will use its Change to Chill and Health Powered Kids platforms to educate children about substance abuse, while empowering adults to learn about the substances being abused by youth, the signs of substance abuse and how to intervene. MHA supports the recent federal regulations to strengthen the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, a law originally championed by Minnesota’s own Sen. Paul Wellstone. Today is World Mental Health Day. A recent study by the Minnesota Department of Health found that emergency department boarding and delayed hospital discharges are due in part to a lack of community-based mental health services. The report also found mental health patients were a significant factor in avoidable and unpaid care. U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar invited MHA President and CEO Dr. Rahul Koranne to address the shortage of IV fluid across the country in the wake of Hurricane Helene. Klobuchar said U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra will be convening a nationwide conference call to address the situation tomorrow. “Right now… all of our care teams are working 24/7… preparing for what will come next,” Dr. Koranne said.

“We have much to be proud of, but it is a very fragile time for health care… Not-for-profit health care is struggling in Minnesota, which is why we may not have the access we had in the past,” said MHA President and CEO Dr. Rahul Koranne at today's Economic Ecosystem of Minnesota Healthcare hosted by the Economic Club of Minnesota.
