Hundreds of families gathered at the Children’s Craniofacial Association Retreat in Baltimore from June 27-June 30. This annual event provided a wonderful opportunity for parents and children to meet, share experiences and information about craniofacial differences, and most importantly, have fun! MTF proudly supported the educational symposium on Thursday, 6/27, where Lisa Miller, Sr. Product Manager, discussed the use of costal cartilage allograft in treating facial differences. The event also featured a raffle, awarding two lucky kids a Healing Heroes bear and activity pack. Join us in wishing Brad Bailey and Marzena Kononuik good luck as they participate in the 2024 Transplant Games of America! They represent tissue transplant athletes competing in a variety of sporting events. Brad, an avid athlete who received an allograft tendon after a knee injury, and Marzena, a scientist at MTF Biologics and a tissue recipient herself after a skiing accident. Today kicks off the games in Birmingham, where thousands from all 50 states and abroad will honor donor families and raise awareness of organ, eye and tissue donation. During her pregnancy, Rachel learned Blake would be born with a cleft lip and palate. As a speech therapist, she knew this could affect his eating, speaking, and ear health. After consulting with experts, Blake had successful surgeries at four months and later for ear tubes and palate repair. These surgeries included the innovative use of donor skin to help reconstruct his lip and palate, ensuring better functional and aesthetic outcomes. Rachel captured Blake’s pre-surgery smile in photos, knowing his appearance would change. Today, Blake is healthy and happy with his two brothers.
