🎉 A WIN FOR THE ENVIRONMENT: As of today, Washington State has banned plastic foam foodware and foam coolers! Foam is one of the most common plastics found polluting our beaches and coasts, so this new ban is a significant victory for the environment, our health, and our future. 🌎 We applaud the state of Washington for demonstrating its leadership in the fight against the growing plastic pollution crisis!

GREAT NEWS: South Carolina State Parks has announced their plans to quickly eliminate single-use plastic bags and water bottles from their retail stores! Two garbage trucks’ worth of plastic enter the ocean every minute. This is a big win for wildlife and for our #healthyoceaneconomy! 🌎 The National Parks Service should act swiftly and follow South Carolina’s lead. 🌊 Add your name now to protect our parks and wildlife from single-use plastics: https://lnkd.in/edX5sNQV

We know that if we focus efforts on stopping plastic pollution at the source, rather than on false solutions, our communities, coastlines, and economies all come out stronger. Bravo Sen. Cory Booker, Congressman Jared Huffman, and Sen. Jeff Merkley 👏
Plastic greatly contributes to the climate crisis and disproportionately affects communities on the fenceline of plastic production plants. We applaud Senator Cory Booker, Congressman Jared Huffman, and Senator Jeff Merkley for introducing the Protecting Communities from Plastics Act to address the plastic production crisis. 👏 With production growing at a rapid rate, plastic can be expected to flood our blue planet with dire consequences, inundating our oceans, impacting the climate, and harming our health. 🌎 This bill will help stop plastic pollution by targeting the problem at the source! Plastic pollution burdens the environment and our coastal communities. An estimated $13 billion loss is experienced each year by businesses in tourism, fisheries, and more because of plastics. This #EarthDay we’re calling on our lawmakers to stand up for a #HealthyOceanEconomy and #BreakFreeFromPlastic #planetvsplastic #plasticfreeseas #choosetoreuse
