Our CTO, Boe Hartman, calls for practical, secure, and scalable solutions in fintech and healthcare payments - industries ripe for disruption as we focus on real-world impact.
Spending most of my career in the fintech sector, I always follow the latest news and thinking coming out of the industry. As I and my co-founders work everyday to build Nomi Health into a company that is transforming healthcare’s infrastructure to drive down costs with a seamless payment and technology platform, I was especially keen what healthcare-related conversations came out of the fintech sector’s premier event Money20/20, which just wrapped this week in Las Vegas. I was shocked to see how much fintech innovation in healthcare was discussed. Spoiler alert - it essentially wasn’t. The discussion was largely absent. My question: why? Healthcare is a $4 trillion+ dollar industry and growing, with an estimated $1 trillion going to waste each year - a problem crippling our nation -- one grappling with a pending recession, destroying our nation’s providers, and putting everyday Americans into medical debt. Fintech can help solve this with real-time payments and a better data architecture. Fintech’s next big act should be healthcare. We’d be foolish to miss this moment. Who agrees?

What we learned from Money20/20 USA: U.S. healthcare is a $4.5 trillion market and growing. By changing our healthcare payment paradigm, the U.S. could save hundreds of billions of dollars, while also improving access to care. Thank you to Boe Hartman, Matt Dill, Sam Maule, and Maia Bittner for such an insightful panel! #Money2020

Navigating U.S. healthcare is a lot like playing basketball 🏀 — full of complex plays and unexpected fouls. Just as coaches adjust their strategies to win, employers must rethink their approach to tackle rising healthcare costs. We would like to thank Michigan State's Basketball Coach, Tom Izzo, and SVP of Strategic Growth at Nomi, Heath Parker, for reminding us that winning requires changing the way you play the game. At Nomi Health, we're building a direct healthcare system that simplifies care, cuts costs, and gives employers more control.

Poor cybersecurity practices at United Health Group and Change Healthcare caused a $1T disaster. The Health Infrastructure Security and Accountability Act of 2024 (Bill S.5218) gives much-needed attention to severe vulnerabilities across the healthcare sector. We at Nomi Health support this bill. The Change breach in early 2024 is a clear example of how a security breach can bring our healthcare system almost to a halt, creating massive ripple effects for providers and patients that persist weeks, months, or years later. Given ongoing exposure to significant threats and a fragmented operating system of payers, providers, and patients, implementing basic measures like ongoing stress testing and other minimum security requirements — standard in many other industries — is the right first step. As a team that includes experts from the financial services and enterprise software sectors who have deep experience in security systems, we support S.5218 as a means for mandating the improvement of the security posture of our nation’s payers and major healthcare systems. #HealthInfrastructureSecurity #SB5218 #HealthcareData #Cybersecurity
