Thank you McDonald's for hosting our latest Futures Series! Beyond trying the world-famous food at McDonald’s Global Headquarters in downtown Chicago, Hyde Park Academy students got to prototype burger packaging, explore the newly opened Speedee Labs, participate in a career roundtable, and learn how Happy Meal toys are being made with more sustainable materials. Our goal with the Futures Series is to give local students exposure to a wide range of careers they may not have been considering for themselves. And when the Obama Presidential Center opens, we hope to continue this type of programming to support the next generation of changemakers.

Our mission is to inspire, empower, and connect people to change their world.
About us
At the Obama Foundation, we are guided by a core belief: that ordinary people working together can change history. Our mission is to inspire those people to take action, empower them to change their world for the better, and connect them so they can achieve more together than they can alone. We were founded by community organizers, so when we seek change, we do it by bringing people together. That approach begins at home, on the South Side of Chicago, where we are building the Obama Presidential Center. The Center represents a historic opportunity for Chicago: a chance to build a world-class museum and public gathering space that celebrates our nation’s first African American President and First Lady, steps away from where he began his career, where she was raised, and where—together—they made their home. But that approach extends to all our work, whether it’s holding leadership training sessions in communities throughout the U.S., bringing local leaders together in countries around the world, working to support the global education of girls, or ensuring young men of color have pathways to opportunity. As President Obama has said, “we cannot solve the challenges of our time unless we solve them together.” So join us.

This #WorldFoodDay, we’re shining the spotlight on two leaders from our 2024-25 Leaders Africa cohort that are addressing food insecurity and malnutrition in their own unique ways. In Cameroon, NJEKE JOSHUA EGBE is tackling hunger through his organization Peace Crops. Using organic farming as a peace-building tool, he’s creating sustainable change in his community. In Ghana, Vera Osei-Bonsu is addressing malnutrition through her organization Eat Smart Foods. She’s using an innovative farm-to-table model to improve food security and avoid food waste. Find out what inspired these two incredible leaders to start their leadership journeys and what’s next for them:

On this day in 2010, the Twenty-First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act became a law under President Obama. This legislation was an important step in bridging the technological access gap for differently abled people. President Obama’s commitment to accessibility is an important hallmark of our work at the Obama Presidential Center. The Center will be an innovative community campus that is inclusively designed with input and in collaboration with community stakeholders and experts. Considerations about navigating the physical space, wayfinding, content, staff training, and more are of great importance to our team. Learn more about the Center: https://lnkd.in/guB59fst

Three years ago, we broke ground on the Obama Presidential Center on the South Side of Chicago. Today, we celebrate the exciting progress we’ve made and shine a light on some of the community members who have shared their aspirations for the Center – like Patrician Haywood.
