It's time to make your #voice heard about the sale of invasive species in #Missouri Missouri Senate Bill 105, sponsored by Senator Mike Bernskoetter, aims to halt the sale of five invasive plants in Missouri. The bill requires that all nurseries and nursery dealers in Missouri submit to the Missouri Department of Agriculture an affidavit that they will not intentionally import, export, buy, sell, transport, distribute, or propagate any plants or seeds of climbing euonymus (Euonymus fortunei; also known as wintercreeper), Japanese honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica), or sericea lespedeza (Lespedeza cuneata) on or after January 1, 2027; or burning bush (Euonymus alatus) or Callery pear (Pyrus calleryana) on or after January 1, 2029. A public hearing for SB 105 will be held in the Missouri State Capitol on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 8:30 a.m. in Senate Committee Room 1 on the first floor of the Missouri State Capitol. Founded in 1965, Open Space STL conserves & sustains land and water throughout the St. Louis Region.
About us
The Open Space STL is a nonprofit organization that works independently and collaboratively to conserve and sustain land, water and other natural resources throughout the St. Louis region. Throughout our history, Open Space STL has played an integral role in: * Restoring and supporting a clean and healthy Meramec River * Helping establish Castlewood State Park, Forest 44 Conservation Area, Beetree County Park, the Glassberg Conservation Area, Forest River Trail Park and an addition to the Young Conservation Area. * Restoring land and water along almost 500 miles of river in the Meramec Watershed * Helping to thwart efforts to dam the Meramec River In addition to restoring and maintaining the region's already dedicated open spaces, the organization's ongoing work includes identifying areas that can be acquired and set aside for public use, and discouraging improper land use and detrimental development. Acting as a Land Trust, we raise and provide funds for new open space projects, offering land owners an alternative to development. Through environmental and community building events such as Operation Clean Stream and Operation Wild Lands, Open Space STL seeks to raise awareness about the importance of land and water conservation, and the value of clean water.
