The LifePort Liver Transporter PILOT clinical trial manuscript has been printed in the May 2024 edition of Hepatology! Panayotova et al. conducted a multicenter, randomized, noninferiority trial which sought to compare liver preservation using LifePort Liver Transporter to the standard of care, static cold storage. For the past two years, I’ve worked as a Clinical and Technical Advisor for Organ Recovery Systems. My role involves training clients on LifePort Kidney Transporter, which gives me opportunities to travel and meet new people in our industry. Prior to joining ORS, I worked as a Surgical Recovery Coordinator for DonorConnect, an Organ Procurement Organization located in Utah. In this role, I pumped kidneys and was involved with LifePort Liver Transporter as part of the PILOT clinical trial. ORS gives me the flexibility to work hard, spend time with my family, and enjoy my hobbies, like rock climbing. Being on the cutting edge of transplant technology and knowing I help make a difference in the lives of those awaiting organ transplants make this role very rewarding. 💜#WhoisORS

Zachary Catalano from LifeCenter Organ Donor Network presented on the collaborative approach between OPOs and transplant centers utilizing LifePort Liver Transporter during Continued Access of the PILOT clinical trial. They saw an increase in local liver utilization, including an 850% increase in DCD liver transplants for UCMC! #AOPOAM24

Is the Future of Liver Perfusion Cold? A recent review article by Risbey et al. explored the current evidence and future directions of hypothermic oxygenated machine perfusion. They found that the current evidence shows that hypothermic oxygenated machine perfusion is a relatively simple and safe technique to improve clinical outcomes in liver transplantation. They reviewed the current systems, protocols, biochemical effects, and clinical outcomes of using hypothermic oxygenated machine perfusion. Overall, they concluded that hypothermic machine perfusion shows promise in being a better preservation method than standard static cold storage, and that a portable system would help to transform how transplant networks are organized and optimize donation.
