Oxfam in Timor-Leste and its partners and allies organized reflection workshop on HAKFOUN Project in Liquiça Oxfam in Timor-Leste, together with the Asosiasaun Alumni Parlamentu Foin sa’e Timor-Leste (#APFTL), Asosiasaun Jornalista Timor-Leste (#AJTL), Timor-Leste Organic Fertilizer (#TILOFE), Ermera Ai-Kulat Mutin Orgániku (#EAMO), and Forum Juventude Defisiensia Ermera (#FJDE), held a biannual reflection for the HAKFOUN Project “Haforsa Lian no Kreatividade Foin Sa’e Inkluzivu - Strengthening Inclusive Youth Voices and Creativity”. This project, funded by the Australian Government, Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade through PROSIVU. The aim of this project is to strengthen the voice of young people in public policy related to economic diversification and public spending. Through strategic partnerships with #APFTL, #AJTL, and local farmer groups in #Ermera, the project has seen successes over the past six months, such as increased government attention on young farmers groups such as Persons with Disabilities and women who has been invested in agriculture other related productive sectors in municipalities. The project has contributed to growing agricultural networks and enhance learning process among farmers in each municipality. Despite these achievements, Oxfam in TImor-Leste and its partners and allies recognised that there is a need for further improvement in areas such as coordination, campaign, advocacy, influencing, and project management. This six-month reflection allowed Oxfam and its partners to evaluate progress, identify challenges, and plan. The event brought together 22 participants from different partners organizations allies. #HAKFOUNProject #ProductiveSectors Oxfam International Oxfam Oxfam in Asia #DFAT #AJTL #APFTL #FJDE #EAMO #TILOFE

Had an absolutely stellar time attending the #ASEANWomenLeadersSummit in Vientiane last week. The theme of this year was “Strengthening Care Economy and Resilience Towards ASEAN Community Post-2025.” This ambitious agenda, led by the Laotian government in their role as ASEAN chair this year, marks a significant milestone for a small nation from the Global South. This theme came full circle since  the Regional Forum on Care Work in ASEAN countries that was jointly convened by Oxfam, the Lao Women’s Union, and UNESCAP where a set of actionable recommendations to address the challenges associated with care work in the region was agreed. Over the past few years our Oxfam team has been pushing the care agenda at various levels. We have been working with the governments, particularly our champions at the gender ministries, to unpack and figure out how states can address care. In parallel we have been working with our partners to ensure that the needs and voices of caregivers in the region can be amplified at the right platforms. Our efforts were recognised by the government of Laos as we received a super cool golden award! It has been so exciting to see so much government ownership and commitment to address the needs of caregivers in the region. The Summit was testament to the fact that gender justice is a core priority in the region. My favourite session of the pre-summit was one progress made in addressing unpaid care and domestic work in the region where best practices and various perspectives from Cambodia, the Philippines, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Timor-Leste were shared during the session where strategies for effective partnerships on promoting a care economy were discussed. Concrete examples are the way forward! We from Oxfam in Asia talked about the household care survey in Philippines (2021), Laos (2023) and Cambodia (2024) and the Care Policy Scorecards in Philippines and Timor-Leste. We highlighted the Philippines research on care infrastructure . We also talked about the national consultations in Philippines and Laos we organised with United Nations ESCAP. We also talked about our work on the nexus of climate and care particularly, Gendered dimensions of loss and damage in Asia and  Towards a Feminist JET in Asia. On Day 2, H.E. Aly Vongnobountham, President of Lao Women Union, noted that care is not measured in GDP, but if it were, an additional 4.5 billion could be included. This lays ground for future advocacy on thinking beyond GDP in the region.    The biggest win for me is that at this point, there is no need to convince anyone of the importance of investing in care; we are now focused on proposing and testing solutions. I have come back to my desk renewed and refreshed and eager to work further on this agenda. Hoping to see more investments in care services and infrastructure, social protection, data collection on care, and the passage of national care responsive policies.

Honoured to have Oxfam's efforts in promoting a care economy recognised by the Lao PDR government at the ASEAN Women Leaders’ Summit. We're proud to collaborate with partners to drive care-responsive policies across the region, grounded in the lived realities of women in #ASEAN. Congrats to the Philippines on the recognition of the passage of the Provincial We-Care Ordinance—a landmark step for advancing the #careeconomy which Oxfam Pilipinas supported. With the ASEAN Declaration on Strengthening the Care Economy now formally endorsed by the ASEAN committee on Women, we're witnessing renewed commitment from ASEAN member states to work on the #care agenda in the region.

On day 2 of the #ASEAN Women Leaders pre-summit, Chaipasird Phunphouvanna, Gender Justice Lead from Oxfam in Laos, emphasized the importance of supporting marginalized women and girls involved in #care work, and the need to address #poverty and #inequality by working together to build an inclusive care economy in Laos and the ASEAN region. Oxfam is participating in the #ASEAN Women Leaders pre-summit in Vientiane, Lao PDR, focusing on "Strengthening Care Economy and Resilience Towards ASEAN Community Post-2025." We are grateful for our continued partnership with The ASEAN Secretariat Lao Women’s Union and United Nations ESCAP to drive regional efforts on promoting a #careeconomy, building on last year’s Regional Forum on Care in ASEAN. We’re highlighting progress on unpaid care work, best practices, and the critical connection between #care and #climate. Our joint efforts aim to drive increased investment in care services and infrastructure, and the adoption of care-responsive policies across ASEAN. ✨ Together, we’re working towards a future where #carework is recognised as the foundation of resilient communities and a thriving ASEAN. 👉 Stay tuned for further updates from the three-day event.

📉 🚨 The official death toll in Gaza has now tragically exceeded 40,000 lives, making this one of the deadliest conflicts of the 21st century. Among the victims, at least 10,627 are children, of whom 663 were under one year of age, and many lives remain unaccounted for. The true toll, including those lost to the indirect consequences of the conflict—such as disease, displacement, and despair—continues to rise, many unreported. 🕊️ It's imperative that we act now. The bloodshed must end. Demand an immediate and permanent #CeasefireNOW to save countless more lives.

🌏 The increasing severity of climate disasters in Asia highlights the urgent need for more aid workers. In 2023, Asia faced 79 major hydro-meteorological events, impacting 9 million people and resulting in over 2,000 fatalities. Extreme heat further complicates the situation, often going unreported. On #WorldHumanitarianDay, we emphasize the importance of inclusivity, local engagement and perseverance in our response efforts. These approaches are essential for effectively addressing the complex and evolving challenges posed by climate change. 🌟
