United Way of Metro Chicago stands as one of the most impactful non-profits in the Chicagoland area, guided by the remarkable leadership of Sean Garrett, President & CEO. United Way plays a pivotal role in driving long-term regional recovery by uniting donors, community leaders, and residents to ensure that all Chicagoland neighbors have access to essential needs like food, shelter, and safety. Through numerous place-based initiatives, United Way fosters stronger, more equitable neighborhoods across the region. This morning, I had the honor of joining Deputy Mayor Kenya K. Merritt, P33 Chicago CEO Brad Henderson, and Claretian Associates CEO angela hurlock at a United Way board meeting. We explored the exciting transformation of the former U.S. Steel site in South Chicago into a global innovation hub, focusing on quantum computing. Our panel delved into the complexities of this visionary initiative and the immense power of public-private partnerships, bringing together diverse stakeholders to ensure its success, including our friends & partners from Chicago's best academic institutions. A heartfelt thank you to Sean Garrett for his relentless leadership—not only as a connector between the worlds of business, government, and non-profits but as a tireless advocate for action and optimism. His dedication is driving meaningful progress and lasting change in our communities, especially the ones on the South & West side of Chicago that continues to suffer from disinvestment.

Last week, our first Neighborhood-Series North Lawndale TechRise Competition, in partnership with the Breedlove Entrepreneurship Center at the YWCA Metropolitan Chicago officially came to a close!🎉 We previously shared the inspiring story of Bobby Price and the journey that led to the founding of his barbershop Principle Barbers, but now we had the privilege of having Bobby himself on the mic. Hear his thoughts, as a North Lawndale native, as he shares how initiatives like the Neighborhood Series—and broader ecosystem efforts to unite communities and make the venture and entrepreneurship space more accessible—create invaluable opportunities for neighborhoods that are full of talent, but often get overlooked. Thank you to everyone who made this event possible 💪! We're looking forward to seeing you at the next one (more details to come...). At P33, we stand with our dear teammate, Desiree Vargas Wrigley, and her family during this incredibly difficult time. Desiree's 10-year-old son, Aedan, is bravely fighting brain cancer, and now it's our turn to support them with the love and care they’ve always shown others. Desiree has dedicated her life to helping families navigate financial hardships through her work with GiveForward, the world’s first crowdfunding platform for medical expenses. Today, she and her family need our help. Aedan is beginning a long treatment journey, and we are rallying together to support them. If you’re able, please contribute to the Wrigley Family Fundraiser. Your generosity will help cover travel, future medical expenses, and the costs of making sure their family stays together during this challenging time. Every bit helps, and your support means the world. Together, we can lift up Desiree, Aedan, and the Wrigley family. Let’s give back the kindness and strength they’ve shared with so many. #SupportAedan #WrigleyFamily #StrongerTogether #P33Family Link to the fundraiser: https://lnkd.in/gcqFDx8A

In 2008 ethan austin and I built the world’s first crowdfunding platform that ended up helping people raise hundreds of millions of dollars for out of pocket medical expenses. But we certainly didn’t do it alone. My sister Ariana Vargas led the largest fundraiser on the site for victims of the Boston Marathon bombing. And our team of over 60 Give Forward alumni, our incredible investors, and our community scaled it to a company that was filled with joy, optimism, and pride. This morning I woke up to a GoFundMe (GiveForward’s home) for my son who is conquering brain cancer with an unbelievable outpouring of support from these same people. I can’t thank you all enough for being on this long but surmountable journey with us. Your generosity will ensure that he has the life and family he deserves and that we can be together more as a family over the coming months. B❤️Positive https://lnkd.in/gcqFDx8A
