Virtual Safety Days will be held online next week, July 23-25, on our Facebook page, Instagram, YouTube and www.palmetto.coop. We hope children of all ages (and parents) will tune in to hear from some of our local experts on a variety of safety topics including electrical safety, online/cyber safety, hurricane preparedness, wildlife safety and more! Daily videos and activities will be posted for viewing. Let's all work together to "Play it Safe" this summer! #playitsafe #safetydays

Congratulations to the local winners of the 2024 enLIGHTenSC Children's Book Challenge, Emmalyn Elliott and Lanie Miller, fifth graders at Hilton Head Island School for the Creative Arts! Their book, Electric Dream, was selected as Palmetto Electric's local winner in the 2024 enLIGHTenSC Book Challenge, sponsored by enLIGHTenSC, an educational initiative of the state's electric cooperatives. Students were challenged to write and illustrate stories that focus on electric cooperatives, sustainability, and the impact of electricity. We are so proud of Emmalyn, Lanie, and all the students who submitted stories for their teamwork, creative writing skills, and critical thinking! #commitmenttocommunity

Congratulations to Leighton Brown, who was recently named the winner of the Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina's "My Why" contest. The "My Why" contest was created to promote worker safety while working on or near high-voltage lines and equipment. The objective was for employees who are required to wear high-voltage rubber gloves to decorate their glove bags with a personal message of why they should wear their gloves and work safely. Safety is the top priority at Palmetto Electric Cooperative, and we are proud of all line personnel who participated in the program! Congratulations Leighton!

It's officially time to deck the halls! Did you know that LED holiday lights use 88% less energy than incandescent holiday lights? The Dept. of Energy estimates that LED lights typically increase energy bills by about $5 to $7. With incandescent lights, energy bills typically increase by $33 or more. #saveenergy #energytip #holidaysavings
