This is the highest honor HCA Healthcare bestows on employees, physicians and volunteers. Established in 1971 and named in honor of Dr. Thomas F. Frist Sr. (1910-1998), the Frist Humanitarian Award is given to those within the organization who demonstrate a level of commitment and care that goes beyond everyday acts of kindness and who inspire others with their compassion and dedication. Frist Humanitarian Award employee and volunteer recipients receive a $10,000 cash gift and a $10,000 gift to a charity of their choice, while the physician recipient receives a $20,000 gift to the charity of their choice. Senja Christopherson, the director of inpatient nursing at Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, has seen firsthand the improvements and support that the community hospital has received since being acquired by HCA Healthcare in March 2020. She shares that the healthcare network helped the hospital through a global pandemic, record-low temperatures and flooding and ensured that colleague and patient needs were met while improving technology and equipment along the way. "We have counted on HCA Healthcare to meet the needs of our patients in Rochester and the Seacoast communities — even under difficult circumstances," Christopherson said. "With a more than 40-year track record of providing care in New Hampshire, we rely on HCA Healthcare for all the resources we need to provide high-quality care for our patients and to take care of our staff. HCA continuously invests in the hospital. In less than five years, we’ve been able to launch a neurospine surgery program, new behavioral health services, state-of-the-art breast imaging center and a new inpatient acute rehabilitation center."
