Partnership President & CEO Kathy Wylde was proud to present the inaugural Granville T. Woods Award to NaviLens CEO Javier Pita at the Gala for Friends of the New York Transit Museum. 🏆 An alum of the 2020 Transit Tech Lab, Navilens has since expanded their partnership with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to transform the transit experience for riders who are visually impaired and have limited English proficiency, setting a powerful example of how innovation can drive accessibility. #Accessibility #NYC #TechInThePublicInterest
I was delighted to present the first ever Granville T. Woods Award for Innovation at the Gala for Friends of the New York Transit Museum last Thursday, to Javier Pita, CEO of NaviLens, who attended along with his wife, NaviLens COO NURIA FRUCTUOSO RUIZ. Their work is making a real difference for transit users who are blind or have low vision, and it speaks directly to the Museum’s (and the MTA’s) commitment to accessibility. It was a privilege to have Kathryn S. Wylde from the Partnership for New York City there to present the award as the Transit Tech Lab brought NaviLens to New York. The Granville T. Woods Award for Innovation honors the Brooklyn-based 19th century Black inventor whose work laid the foundation for the third rail technology used today by railroads worldwide. Not enough people know his story, and it’s one of our favorites to tell at the Transit Museum. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eHmbhZyU

A great article in Fast Company's Design section about the new GMDC Brownsville Industrial Center and Bridge Rockaway apartments. The site, which was once the U-Bet Chocolate Syrup factory (a key ingredient in the New York City egg cream fountain beverage), is the first development in NYC to co-locate workspaces for independent makers with affordable housing units. The Partnership Fund was proud to invest in this one-of-a-kind project bringing new jobs and new homes to this community in Brooklyn. With #ClimateWeekNYC 2024 now behind us, I’ve been reflecting on the diverse discussions I had at the events hosted by Morgan Stanley and at those I attended. Here are some key observations that stood out: 🤝 We must break down silos and improve our ability to foster cross-sector collaboration. This was evident in our roundtable with the Partnership for New York City on building a climate-resilient New York. We discussed the need to leverage existing public funding initiatives, create centralized New York-based institutions to coordinate climate resilience projects, and foster collaboration between the public and private sectors to ensure knowledge is shared and resources are pooled. Tackling climate change will require a diversity of voices—from finance to technology, government to foundations—all speaking to each other and working toward solutions. 🌎 The intersection of climate and people was a much more prominent part of the conversation this year. This was clear at our roundtable in collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund on financing the transition of global food systems to be more climate- and nature positive, where participants emphasized the importance of ensuring that social dimensions, such as food security and farmer livelihoods, are prioritized. 💰 Financing is key to accelerating decarbonization. Whether it is developing new funding mechanisms or finding ways to build investor support, there is a clear need to think more creatively and ambitiously if we are to achieve climate goals. Bold approaches to funding are needed, such as utilizing blended finance, existing federal programs, and mobilizing concessional capital. ⚡ There are reasons to be optimistic. There is continued growth in renewables and energy storage, innovative financial solutions in emerging markets are scaling, and there is rising confidence in voluntary carbon markets. But we also face real barriers: financing gaps, geopolitical uncertainties, and the growing recognition of the challenges of meeting 1.5C. Thank you to my colleagues at Morgan Stanley including Courtney Thompson, Zach Solomon, Artemis Diana Tiburcio, and Titilayo Ola who helped organized the events. And thanks to our partners at the World Wildlife Fund, including Sheila Bonini and Elizabeth Aceituno, and Maria Gotsch at the Partnership for New York City. Additional gratitude to all other organizations that hosted events, including NationSwell.

The #PartnershipFund is a proud investor in GMDC Brownsville Industrial Center--NYC's first-ever mixed-use development that co-locates affordable housing with light manufacturing space--which opened its doors this week with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting. This unique collaboration between The Bridge, Mega Development Inc., and Greenpoint Manufacturing and Design Center (GMDC) addresses a pressing need for quality affordable homes, industrial development, and community space in an underserved community, while creating a new model for how the city can use urban spaces more effectively. The Partnership Fund first invested in GMDC over 20 years ago and has funded five of its projects across Brooklyn and Queens. A special thanks to Latham & Watkins for their pro bono support on the Brownsville project and helping create a brighter future for New Yorkers! 🏗️🏡 #NYC #AffordableHousing #UrbanDevelopment
