We have decided to sponsor the upcoming A&WMA/Rutgers sustainability conference on September 25 in Camden NJ. As part of this sponsorship we get to invite two people to join the event. Our choices were Terrill Haigler and Uzziah Davis. Both men are actively leading their communities on these critical issues and looking to make a difference with their work. If you don't know them, we suggest looking them up. You won't be sorry.

Leaders from the legal, industrial, academic, government, and community challenge each other on best paths forward.
About us
It is vital to create spaces to hear from the community, and when possible, facilitate discussions between community leaders and industry. Climate change and environmental justice are pushing regulatory reforms as impacts across the country continue to disproportionately affect those in overburdened areas. But logistical constraints such as supply chain and permitting threaten to delay environmental and economic potential benefits from project development. This podcast will pull together thought leaders from the legal, industrial, academic, government, and community perspectives to dig into these issues and challenge each other on best paths forward.

Special Extra Episode Wildfires are a growing climate change impact. They have considerable air quality impacts in local communities and are now affecting areas that had not previously had to worry about this, or carry insurance. Chris Whitehead was joined by Sarah B. Henderson, PhD (Scientific Director, British Columbia CDC) and Christine Wiedinmyer (Associate Director of Science at CIRES at the University of Colorado Boulder) to discuss these issues and more. It was a fascinating conversation that helped look into some modeling and trends for the coming years. Enjoy! Video is available on our YouTube Channel: https://lnkd.in/e5Mksx3D Also including a recent Atlantic article on the wildfire insurance topic: https://lnkd.in/g2VCAt7J #wildfire #airquality #climatechange #airmodeling https://lnkd.in/efFuaG9Q

Please share with your networks. The New Jersey Chapter of the Air & Waste Management Association is thrilled to again partner with Rutgers Business School to present "Sustainability Planning in the Age of Climate Change". We tasked ourselves with developing an opportunity for business leaders, community members, government leaders, and students to collaborate on some of the most pressing climate-related sustainability issues (food insecurity, water policy, and waste minimization). We are very proud of the program and hope you can join the conversation. We also kept the sponsorship rate for this event quite low, to encourage broad participation. The effects of rising insurance costs related to climate impacts has been a topic that's come up on multiple episodes this year. I've been working to do a standalone episode on that topic. More to come...
“Costs are rising for homeowners of all types, and in states like Florida, Texas and California, it has become harder to get insurance at all. The industry says bigger, more frequent storms, along with increased home prices and material and labor costs, are forcing them to raise premiums or stop writing policies. Wealthier homeowners can go without insurance, if they can buy a home without a mortgage. Landlords of market-rate apartments can raise the rent to adjust to the higher costs. But for the 4,000 or so nonprofits and developers that aren’t allowed to raise rents, or are selling homes only to buyers with the most constrained budgets, the soaring cost of insurance is an existential threat.”

You'll enjoy this one... For this episode, we look into the challenges facing industrial scale decarbonization, the climate imperatives driving much of this, and discuss how the energy sector has changed over the last few years. Few know these topics better than Michael Jung, Government Affairs & Public Policy at Modern Hydrogen and Madeline Urbish, Ørsted Head of Public Affairs for the Americas Region. But these are really heavy issues and progress can be difficult to see at times. I'd like to list Hannah Ritchie's "Six Things to Keep in Mind" from her excellent book, Not the End of the World. Thanks Maddie for the great recommendation. 1. We face big and important environmental challenges 2. The fact that our environmental issues aren't humanity's largest existential risk doesn't mean we shouldn't work on them. 3. You will have to hold multiple thoughts at the same time. 4. None of this is inevitable, but it is possible. 5. We cannot afford to be complacent. 6. You are not alone in this. SCOTUS ended their last term with a flurry of important environmental cases that will shape policies in the coming years. I was fortunate for this episode to be joined by Tanya Nesbitt and J. Michael Showalter for a detailed discussion on Loper, Good Neighbor, and much more. A major theme that came forward was the importance of administrative law and what these cases suggest for environmental cases in the next SCOTUS term. Note, this episode is only available via audio and is on all the major platforms.
