Pennsylvania Voice believes a healthy democracy creates healthy communities. Their aim is to build an inclusive, just, and reflective multiracial democracy throughout the state of Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania Voice serves as the table where 50 partner organizations meet to discuss, plan, and coordinate their work around a collective state-wide democracy agenda. PHP grantee partners SEAMAAC and New Voices for Reproductive Justice are two members of Pennsylvania Voice's Integrated Voter Engagement Work Group. This group convenes community-based organizations that conduct year-round nonpartisan direct voter outreach focused on closing the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) voter registration gap, educating voters, and increasing turnout in BIPOC communities. In September, we think of back to school, and our attention turns to the children in our lives. PHP would like to focus on our grantee partner Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and their advocacy for public funding streams to support the HealthySteps program. HealthySteps is an evidence-based model developed by ZERO TO THREE that CHOP is piloting to: • integrate a child development expert into the primary care team • help nurture physical and behavioral health during a child’s critical early years • offer support to parents and caregivers • address the needs of the family as a whole In a new white paper, PolicyLab at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia shares what they have learned about how a growing number of states are establishing public financing mechanisms to sustain HealthySteps.mechanisms to sustain HealthySteps.
NEW HEALTHYSTEPS RESOURCE Pediatric primary care serves as the cornerstone of a family's interaction with the health care system. HealthySteps, a program of ZERO TO THREE, is an evidence-based model that integrates a child development expert into the primary care team to nurture the physical and behavioral health of children during their critical early years, while also supporting their caregivers. Given its success, a growing number of states are establishing public financing mechanisms to sustain the program. Pennsylvania and states around the country can learn from their example. Our team worked closely with ZERO TO THREE on a new white paper that examines the state funding initiatives for HealthySteps and HealthySteps-aligned services that are relevant for PA and provides an analysis of these sustainability pathways.
