Point Source Youth in collaboration with Isaac Sanders Consulting is seeking indigenous young people ages 18-24 year olds with lived experience with homelessness to participate in the Indigenous Youth Prevention Survey. This survey aims to understand the significance of cultural practices, family connections, and community support in preventing homelessness among Indigenous youth, particularly those who have experienced disconnection from their families and cultures. ICYMI: Power can shift by challenging assumptions. DCT has shown that it works to get and keep young people housed, is cost-effective, and simple in nature– organizations provide young people with cash in a safe way so they can decide what is most needed in their lives.

Aisha Nyandoro, founder of Springboard To Opportunities, made a groundbreaking realization in 2017: to truly lift families out of poverty, they needed cash—no strings attached. In 2018, she launched the Magnolia Mother’s Trust, providing Black mothers in public housing $1,000 a month for a year. It was the first guaranteed income project of its kind, empowering families to pay off debts, invest in their futures, and plan beyond bills. The program has since grown, now supporting over 100 mothers annually and inspiring 150 similar initiatives nationwide. We're continuing to see encouraging data come from giving people who experience homelessness cash. As we advocate for direct cash transfer programs for youth experiencing homelessness and to prevent youth homelessness, stories like this one help affirm that we're on the right path with cash. "Two key findings so far are that participants in the Miracle Money study who received $750 per month were less likely to remain unsheltered and closer to being able to meet all of their basic needs, compared with those who access usual services available to the homeless population." https://lnkd.in/gG3MYiqR

We're thrilled to share a little bit about what's happening in the world of Direct Cash Transfers as Prevention with all of you. We've been working hard over the past year to expand and fortify our prevention efforts. After we saw 100 people enrolled in Direct Cash Transfers as Prevention, we looked at preliminary data to see what we could point to for folks to get a better picture of who DCT-P is reaching and how the cash is being used.
