Portland Bureau of Environmental Services

To minimize traffic delays for the 47 truckloads of concrete, 15 craft workers, including four apprentices, began work at 3:30 AM this past Monday. A total of 465 cubic yards of concrete was poured for one of the final large concrete slabs for the Secondary Treatment Expansion Program (STEP) - the largest improvement project at the Columbia Boulevard Wastewater Treatment Plant since the 1970s. This pour was for our new SOLO (Solids Handling Load Out) facility. SOLO will replace the current 'sludge hoppers' and is part of a new biosolids processing complex that will add capacity and operational resiliency at the plant.

It's #NationalInternDay, a day to thank and honor hardworking interns!   Today was also our Annual Pretreatment Awards, where Environmental Services recognizes industrial customers who are committed to protecting the environment and keeping our rivers, streams, and watersheds healthy.   At the awards ceremony, Keon Kiser, an engineer trainee and intern at Environmental Services, presented to our award-winning industrial customers on how industrial pretreatment facilities protect Portland's wastewater infrastructure and environment.
