💡#DKY? Off-grid solar PV provided jobs for 307,000 people across countries like #Kenya, #Uganda, #Ethiopia, #Nigeria, and #India in 2023! Women hold 38% of these jobs in Africa, though some countries stand out: ☀ 41% of Kenya’s distributed solar PV workforce are women. In Nigeria and Ethiopia, women hold 35% and 37% of solar jobs, respectively. International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) latest report highlights the barriers women face and offers transformative solutions to unlock their full potential. 📈 The report presents actionable pathways for: 🛠️ Access to training, education, and employment 👩💼 Boosting entrepreneurial opportunities 💼 Creating a positive, flexible work environment Read More: https://lnkd.in/eMC2NdvF Shortlist Futures GOGLA International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Alem Gebru Gebremeskel ESEDA (Ethiopian Solar Energy Development Association) Carolina Inés Pan, PhD Agustin Carbo #PoweringJobs #EndEnergyPovertyFaster

🌱 On the #InternationalDayofClimateAction, we reflect on the progress toward a sustainable future and the crucial role of clean energy in combating climate change. The International Energy Agency (IEA) Energy Outlook Report shows that in 2023, global renewable capacity grew by over 560 gigawatts, with clean energy investments nearing $2 trillion annually (almost double those in fossil fuels). Despite this, we’re still short of achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7 (#SDG7)—universal access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy—and mitigating the accelerating impacts of climate change. To get back on track, collective action is needed: ✅ Rebalance investments: Governments and the private sector must boost clean energy infrastructure investment and diversify supply chains, especially in developing countries. ✅ Lower costs for developing economies: Partnerships can reduce capital costs through innovative financing and better supply chain access. ✅ Fossil fuel transition: Major economies must lead by pricing carbon and phasing out fossil fuel subsidies. ✅ Upgrade energy infrastructure: Global efforts should enhance energy grids and invest in smart grid technologies to better integrate renewables. ✅ Stable regulations: Governments need clear policies that attract clean energy investment, with support for developing countries. ✅ Expand financing: Global coalitions can provide low-interest loans and grants to help developing nations scale up clean energy. Today, let’s advocate, support and vote for policies that accelerate clean energy adoption and ensure its benefits reach everyone. Only by acting together can we create a sustainable and equitable future. #EndEnergyPovertyFaster #InternationalDayOfClimateAction #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy #PowerForAll 🌟 Join us in promoting sustainable practices and integrating climate change measures into all areas of our lives. Every single action, no matter how small, counts! 🌟

Power for All reposted this
I’m thrilled to share that the "Decentralised Solar PV: A Gender Perspective" report is now live! 🌍☀️. As part of the Power for All team, I had the opportunity to contribute to this important project funded by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), highlighting the role women play in decentralized solar. Empowering women in the DRE sector is key to ending energy poverty and achieving SDG 7. Proud to be part of this mission! 📖 Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/dNXUEuGd #EndEnergyPovertyFaster #DRE #GenderEquality #SDG7 #EnergyAccess #PoweringJobs
In 2023, more than 300 000 people were estimated to be directly employed in the decentralised #solar PV sector across #Ethiopia, #India, #Kenya, #Nigeria and #Uganda. However, women made up only a small portion of this workforce and face numerous barriers to engagement. New International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) report identifies these challenges and proposes solutions to harness the vast, transformative potential of women in the decentralised #renewableenergy sector.

💡Improved energy access can enhance food quality and extend shelf life. Much of #Africa’s food crisis can be attributed to factors such as: ✔️low agricultural productivity ✔️ limited mechanization ✔️low access to agricultural finance ✔️information asymmetry and inefficient farmer advisory services However, a consistent point underlying many of these issues is persistent #energypoverty. Driving the adoption of DRE can help address energy and economic inequities stifling Africa and its food system. It's exciting to see Carolina Inés Pan, PhD, Power for All's head of research, engaging in transformative discussions at #GOGSFE24 about how to create 3.3 million green jobs by 2030. Her insights, based on years of research, into the challenges and opportunities in the off-grid solar industry are invaluable in the consideration of how to drive sustainable economic growth in sub-Saharan Africa. Carolina's focus on mobilizing affordable capital and nurturing skilled talent highlights the double benefit of combating energy poverty and boosting job creation in the region. Congratulations on driving such impactful conversations, Carolina! #SolarEnergy #GreenJobs #EconomicDevelopment #SDG7 #SDG8 #EndEnergyPovertyFaster
🌍 Last week, Power for All was part of two critical discussions at GOGLA's #GOGSFE24 in Nairobi, Kenya, with some of the smartest people in the #solar off-grid industry: 👷♀️ 3.3 Million Jobs by 2030: in this panel, we discussed the key challenges to job growth in the sector, but mostly where the opportunities are and how green jobs can support economic growth and increase standards of living in Sub-Saharan Africa. A big part of this is the failure to absorb all of the new entrants to the labor force due to little awareness, labor demand biases, and working conditions. I cannot stress enough that while job creation is a consequence of increased energy access, the human capital required for #greenjobs at scale is also one of the most critical inputs (if not the most critical) to end energy poverty. Thank you, Ciara Marie Remerscheid, Katie Hill, Abigail Kuria, and Sarah Kanda PRINCE2® for sharing your rich and diverse experience with the audience. ⚡ Scaling Local Minigrid Companies: in this conversation, we identified (the scarcity of) affordable capital and skilled talent as the main barriers to scaling solar #minigrids in #SubSaharanAfrica. Early-stage funding (beyond seed capital) is essential for the growth of the sector, and so is increased data and transparency (especially on the regulatory environment and business models) that will help make investment decisions. Loved sharing the stage with Daniel Kitwa, FCCA, sharmarke abdulkadir, Noro Ruth Ezekiel, and James Wakaba. Special thanks to Grace Perkins for hosting! #endenergypovertyfaster
