PPL President and CEO Vince Sorgi addressed an audience of energy leaders from around the world as part of an opening panel at the 2024 CIGRE Paris Session – “Roadmap to the Energy System of the Future."   Vince, who also chairs EPRI’s Board of Directors, shared his thoughts on what it will take to achieve a net-zero future by 2050 and discussed changes utilities must make to advance the clean energy transition while maintaining reliability and affordability for customers and communities.   Across PPL, we remain focused on creating the utilities of the future. This includes planned infrastructure investment of $14.3 billion from 2024 to 2027, strong support for clean energy R&D, and a commitment to leveraging technology and artificial intelligence to drive operational efficiency and help keep energy affordable for our customers.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗚𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 During today’s 2024 CIGRE opening panel—"Roadmap to the Energy System of the Future”—the key message was clear: the path to decarbonization runs through distribution systems. Speaking during the panel, Vincent Sorgi, president and CEO of PPL Corporation and chair of EPRI’s Board, emphasized the urgent need to enhance the efficiency of utility distribution systems. He highlighted the pivotal role that #AI and other advanced technologies can play in this transformation. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 ~𝟴: For every operation and maintenance dollar saved through efficient grid operations, the power sector can invest approximately $8 in capital to boost grid reliability, enhance customer engagement, and maintain affordable rates. It’s not a choice between affordability and sustainability; it’s about achieving both through technology and enabling regulatory policies. EPRI, with its global collaborations, works with more than 400 electric companies across 40 countries to scale technologies that make grid operations significantly more efficient. Together, we are paving the way for a sustainable and reliable energy future. #CIGRE2024

PPL believes that investing in the communities it serves through education is vital, and with many students preparing to return to classes, teams at our operating companies recently came together to help get them ready: In Kentucky, LG&E and KU Energy LLC held its 23rd annual Operation School Drive, assembling about 2,000 school supply kits for area students. The supplies, which include notebooks, folders, pens, pencils and other items, were distributed by community service organizations including FEED THE CITY INC and Southwest Community Ministries as well as other local school resource centers. More than two dozen team members from PPL Electric Utilities and PPL Corporation put together 2,500 backpack bundles and supplies as part of their “Backpack Builders” initiative. The supplies will go to over 20 schools and community support groups throughout our Pennsylvania service area. In addition, members of our Rhode Island Energy team joined over 200 volunteers from Back to School of Rhode Island, a 100% volunteer-led organization celebrating their 25th anniversary providing school supplies to local kids and families. Together, volunteers stuffed school supplies into 16,000 backpacks and organized them for distribution to students across the Ocean State. We wish all returning students a safe and successful year! 🍎 ✏️ 📚

With this in mind, PPL is proud to partner with The Westly Group in supporting entrepreneurs who are driving transformative solutions for some of the world’s biggest industries. Our $10 million investment in Westly’s early-stage venture capital fund will support the development and commercialization of digital and clean energy technologies. PPL President and CEO Vince Sorgi helped close out the Electric Power Research Institute’s annual Summer Seminar this week, moderating a panel focused on enabling power sector innovation and “first movers” in the deployment of emerging technologies.   Sorgi, who chairs EPRI’s Board of Directors, was joined by Georgia Public Service Commissioner Tricia Pridemore; fellow CEOs Manu Asthana (PJM Interconnection), Jeff Lyash (Tennessee Valley Authority) and Jim Burke (Vistra Corp.); and JPMorgan Chase & Co. Managing Director Jay Horine – all of whom provided outstanding insights.   This year’s Summer Seminar brought together global energy leaders from industry, government and academia for discussions on how best to advance grid resiliency; power economic development; support the rapid rise of data centers; ensure long-term resource adequacy; and affordably and reliably deliver a net-zero future.   We recognize that achieving net-zero by 2050 will require faster action and commercialization of new technology than the electricity sector has ever achieved. Collaboration is key to overcoming this challenge and accelerating innovation that benefits society. Fortunately, a key characteristic of our industry is our ability to work together to solve difficult challenges. EPRI, an independent, non-profit research and development organization, is helping to lead the way.    Kudos to the EPRI team for putting together a fantastic agenda and a great event. At PPL, we look forward to our continued partnership with you as we help to shape our energy future.
