Creating a world where cancer is preventable, detectable and beatable for all.
About us
The Prevent Cancer Foundation® is the only U.S.-based nonprofit organization solely dedicated to cancer prevention and early detection. Through research, education, outreach and advocacy, we have helped countless people avoid a cancer diagnosis or detect their cancer early enough to be successfully treated. We are driven by a vision of a world where cancer is preventable, detectable and beatable. The Foundation is rising to meet the challenge of reducing cancer deaths by 40% by 2035. To achieve this, we are committed to investing $20 million for innovative technologies to detect cancer early and advance multi-cancer screening, $10 million to expand cancer screening and vaccination access to medically underserved communities, and $10 million to educate the public about screening and vaccination options. For more information, please visit www.preventcancer.org. Stay in touch with us! Sign up to receive one (or more) of our newsletters at www.preventcancer.org/newsletter.

It’s another #HispanicHeritageMonth spotlight and we’re proud to introduce you to the Dignity Health Mercy & Memorial Hospitals. In 2019, funding from the Prevent Cancer Foundation helped Dignity Health expand their reach, clearing up misconceptions about breast health and sharing the need for breast health education at a younger age. Through their Community Wellness Program, Dignity Health California reached 700+ low-income, medically underserved women with free breast cancer education led by a bilingual health education coordinator. Their services are for all ages. Thank you to Dignity Health Bakersfield team for your continued dedication to reaching medically underserved Latinas with #BreastCancer education!

🔍 Early Detection = Better Outcomes, but insurance can make or break preventing cancer or finding it early. That’s according to the Prevent Cancer Foundation’s 2024 Early Detection survey, which indicated adults without health insurance are over two times more likely to say they haven’t had a routine medical appointment or cancer screening in the last year compared to those with health insurance. Additionally, U.S. adults who are employed with PTO more often reported having a routine medical appointment or cancer screening than employed adults who do not have PTO. The question remains—how can we ensure everyone can achieve better outcomes for their health? Learn more and read our findings: https://lnkd.in/e7AFrcYD

This October, it’s likely that pink will be the dominant color across your feeds. Raise your hand if this isn’t the first post you’re seeing about #BreastCancer this month. ✋✋✋ Beyond the #ThinkPink mantra, we want to #ThinkScreening! Breast cancer is highly curable if found early. Unfortunately, many breast cancers are diagnosed once it has already spread. Early Detection = Better Outcomes, so this month, we’re reminding everyone how it’s important to get screened, reduce your risk, and talk with your health care provider about your health history. Don’t know where to start? Take the screening quiz to learn if you’re eligible for breast cancer screening (and learn what other screenings you’re eligible for too): https://lnkd.in/eCRe4SSZ How are you or your organization going beyond #ThinkingPink this month? Let us know in the comments. 👇

For the next #HispanicHeritageMonth spotlight, we’re celebrating the work of Erie Family Health Centers, recipient of a 2021 Prevent Cancer Foundation grant. Their Breast Cancer Continuum of Care Program addresses the language, cultural, financial and logistical barriers Latina women may face in accessing breast cancer screenings on Chicago’s West Side. Here's how they help Latinas access screenings: - Referring patients for low/no-cost mammograms. - Making sure people follow through and get those screenings by sending text, email and phone call reminders. - Doing outreach to deliver proactive breast health education and provide linkage to resources. We’re in awe of Liliana Luna and the whole team’s great work!

Older Americans deserve access to the latest screening tools that can detect dozens of cancers earlier when they’re more treatable, but time is running out. Alongside 500+ of the leading health care and advocacy organizations across the U.S., we will continue to urge Congress to pass the Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act before it’s too late. It’s #HispanicHeritageMonth and we’re highlighting past and present Foundation-funded organizations that are doing amazing work supporting their local Hispanic communities. First up is University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Comadre a Comadre Program, Office of Community Outreach and Engagement. Comadre a Comadre is a culturally and linguistically designed project that provides training to trusted peer breast and cervical cancer survivors (also known as comadres) in the community through Placitas—which translates to “talk” or “chat.” The comadres address barriers to screening and navigating patients to appointments. We’re inspired by your program’s success, Elba L. Saavedra Ferrer and team! Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!
