Improving Lives by Improving Homes.

About us

project:HOMES is a nonprofit organization headquartered in Richmond, Virginia. We improve lives through the production and preservation of affordable housing. Our programs serve low-income families, seniors and disabled persons through affordable housing, energy conservation and health & safety modifications. Each year we improve the lives of more than 2,000 families and our waiting lists continue to grow. Our work helps families stay in their homes and live in high-quality housing. It prevents widespread losses in low- and moderate-income homeownership and helps stabilize communities. We empower volunteers, conserve energy, transform neighborhoods and improve lives. More than 1,000 volunteers make home repairs and build wheelchair ramps through the project:HOMES Renew Crew program. This volunteer work allows at-risk individuals to remain in their homes and live independently, safely and affordably. We are improving lives by improving homes.

Check out this before & after of our latest historic restoration down in Petersburg's Historic Poplar Lawn neighborhood, the Roger Pryor & Carrie Bragg Campbell House at 223 Harrison Street. On the day of the historic marker unveiling & open house, a program was held at First Baptist Church, featuring a performance by the Virginia State University Choir. Representatives from local and state government also spoke at the event, along with representatives from the Virginia Department of Historic Resources. During the program, we learned more about the significant impact that Roger and Carrie had on the Petersburg community. This is another project we completed in collaboration with The Cameron Foundation as part of the Partners for Neighborhood Renewal - Poplar Lawn initiative. Shoutout to Construction Project Manager, Kim Jordan, for leading this project!

Every year, National Hispanic Heritage Month is observed from September 15 to October 15 as a time to recognize and celebrate the many contributions, diverse cultures, and extensive histories of the Latinx community. September 15th is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Additionally, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18. 🎉 #nationalhispanicheritagemonth #hispanicheritagemonth

📣 Check out these photos of a recently completed new construction on Everett Street! This was the late Dennis LeBlanc's last project, and was finished off by Herb Clark. Dennis, famous for his distinctive door color choices, was honored by mirroring his signature style in this project. Photo Credit: Mick Anders Photography

Summer ESL (English as a Second Language) classes at Bermuda Estates have officially come to an end! Our adult students showcased their final projects, demonstrating the vocabulary they've been practicing at our simulated "Burlington" store. Their children stepped into the role of store employees, managing transactions, using the cash register, bagging items, and even handling returns! Following the presentations, students received their certificates, and everyone enjoyed a potluck dinner. Additionally, we're excited to share that three students have decided to continue their English studies through Chesterfield County, which started last week!

🏡 Marion and Zack recently attended the Virginia Manufactured and Modular Housing Association’s Annual Meeting in Charlottesville. They networked with home manufacturers and vendors from communities like Bermuda Estates and received updates on newly introduced single and double-wide manufactured attached duplexes, upcoming HUD code changes, and new financing options for manufactured housing.
