"Only 5% of women can’t make enough milk". It pops up all the time- on social media, in news articles, in textbooks.....AND.IT'S.WRONG This statistic is repeated so often that people don’t even think to question it (IYKYK)- they just repeat it, and use it to gaslight moms into thinking that their low supply is either 😡 their fault 😡 all in their head .....imagine how that affects #postpartumdepression and #womensmentalhealth not to mention #infantnutrition 🤦 Rachel O'Brien chased it down to Neville & Neifert’s 1983 textbook LACTATION: Physiology, Nutrition, and Breast-Feeding.....and if you dig a little more you'll find that likely came from JC Spence in 1938, reflecting on their "observations" of new moms in rural towns in the UK. This IS NOT science, and this IS NOT data. 💡 Enough already. We can and need to do better! Let's provide evidence-based information and interventions so parents can make informed choices for their family. I’m excited to share that I’ve joined PumpKin as Community Relations Manager 🎉 PumpKin is a Princeton University Spin-Out on a mission to translate the science of breastmilk into simple solutions for pumping parents.    Thank you to Maggie Moore, Justin Silpe, and the entire team for this opportunity.    Did you know..    • One year of breastfeeding equates to approximately 1,800 hours of a mother's time. A “full time job” is 1,960.   • 42% of moms stop breastfeeding due to work..and not always by choice.   • More than 50% of parents struggle to feed their baby stored milk.   I’m proud to have so many incredible parents in my network.
