The complete French Open Source Startups Market Map 🇫🇷 🐧 🔓 *edit: following the many comments I received on this post since yesterday, I wanted to make some clarifications on the criteria I used to put together this map: "French": this map includes companies with headquarters in France (the majority), foreign companies with French founders, AND a substantial workforce in France. "Open-Source": I tried not to be dogmatic with my definition of open-source, so I included both commercial open-source companies (i.e. companies selling value on top of open-source projects) and commercial companies contributing substantially to one or several open-source repositories. "Startups": I increased my initial scope and included 10+ years old small businesses and large companies. I did not include, though, service companies. Since I’ve been looking for some time for an exhaustive map of ALL French open-source startups, I decided to put it together myself 😇 I included commercial open-source startups in this map as well as commercial startups that maintain one or multiple open-source projects. I also included some old-timers who cannot be considered startups but have been promoting open software in France. I will share later this week an exhaustive post about my findings, including the biggest venture investor in French open-source startups or the common point between most of these startups 😉 This map is partly based on the great work done by Maxime Corbani last year. The rest is based on Dealroom.co (for numbers), LinkedIn and other public information. P.S.: I've put together a Notion database with all the information.
