🌍 Sustainable Packaging Revolution in Food & Drink FoodNavigator Europe reported that European towns and cities are pushing for reusable packaging mandates following updates to the EU Packaging and Packaged Waste Regulation. This shift could significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as seen in Aarhus (54%) and Berlin (34%) 🌱. Consumer interest in refillable packaging is growing 📈. Strong policy support and consumer engagement are essential to make this transition successful 💪. R3PACK, a Horizon Europe project, aims to revolutionise sustainable food packaging through its unprecedented experiment “Rapportez-moi pour réemploi” 🛍️, allowing consumers to return reusable food packaging to 3 partner stores in France where it is now tested, thus reducing packaging waste. 🌍 Plastic Overshoot Day: September 5th 🌍 Today, global plastic waste surpasses the world’s waste management capacity. In 2024, 220 million tons of plastic waste will be generated, with one-third ending up in the environment. EA - Earth Action calls for corporate responsibility, collaboration, and a UN Treaty to tackle this crisis. The need for innovative, non-polluting alternatives is urgent. Our project R3PACK aims to revolutionise sustainable packaging by replacing complex multilayer plastic with high-performing fiber-based solutions, as well as making reuse systems more cost-effective, efficient, and environmentally friendly.
