The INSERMA ANOIA SL automated system for removing voice coil magnets (VCMs) from Hard Disk Drives (HDDs), shown in this video was the first generation machine and can still be found at the University of Birmingham. This technology has been developed further and now has the potential to remove a VCM in less than three seconds per HDD. HPMS technology was developed in the University of Birmingham Magnetic Materials Group and is a highly effective short loop recycling process for Rare Earth Permanent Magnets, delivering a 90% energy saving when compared to those produced from primary materials. Die Deutsche Rohstoffagentur (#DERA) in der BGR hat eine Studie zum #Recycling von Neodym-Eisen-Bor (NdFeB)-Magneten in Deutschland veröffentlicht. Die Studie, mit deren Erstellung die Fraunhofer IWKS beauftragt war, gibt einen detaillierten Überblick über den aktuellen Stand und die Potenziale des NdFeB-Magnetrecyclings und analysiert die technischen Prozesse des Recyclings.   Das Recycling von NdFeB-Magneten kann die Abhängigkeit von importierten Rohstoffen verringern. NdFeB-Magnete gehören zu den Permanentmagneten, die auch im Critical Raw Materials Act der EU eine Rolle spielen.
