We're excited to share a new and improved Birth Control Methods Chart with you! ✨ This new chart is framed around client autonomy and prompts providers to focus on their clients’ contraceptive preferences as a starting point in counseling conversations. This framework offers providers multiple ways to center a client’s specific preferences and is aligned with the forthcoming QFP 2.0. In the chart, methods are organized by whether clients can start and stop on their own and by those that require provider involvement (prescription or procedure). Within each category, the methods are listed in order of effectiveness (i.e., pregnancy risk), as we know clients also value effective methods. The HITEQ Center invites sexual and reproductive health care providers to join an upcoming webinar on November 19 on using commonplace EHR technology to increase STI and HIV testing, and reduce maternal and congenital #syphilis. Dr. Irene Stafford, OBGYN from the University of Texas Houston Maternal-Fetal Medicine Center, will describe recent research demonstrating a decrease in transmission of congenital syphilis by implementing routine EHR strategies for best practice alerts. Her work demonstrates how the EHR can serve as an educational tool for providers, how information technology can inform practice patterns and improve health outcomes, and describes how best practice alerts can assist in reportable disease management.
