Since Monday, Damon Mason, our Director of Operations, has been in DC for the Annual NCRC Just Economy Conference. Alongside representatives from the Minnesota Consortium of Community Developers, Minnesota Homeownership Center, and Pillsbury United Communities, Damon had the opportunity to lobby at the nation's Capitol, advocating on behalf of affordable homeownership and business opportunities. The three day conference was a great success, providing space for workforce development specialists, community land trusts, and CDFI practitioners from across the country to come together, build solidarity, and learn from one another.

In 1993, Rondo CLT became the first CLT in the state of Minnesota, and for the past three decades we’ve embodied principles of cooperative stewardship. In deep collaboration with our community, we’ve secured and preserved property and land so that the families and businesses that were dispossessed by the destruction of the I-94 freeway can return — and new families and businesses can put down roots. So as February ends and we reflect on how we honored Black History this month, we’re also looking back at how our efforts in 2024 contributed to the past and future prosperity of Rondo, Saint Paul, and greater Ramsey County. On February 11th, Rondo CLT's Executive Director, Mikeya Griffin, and MCCD's Senior Policy & Field Building Advisor, Kelly Law, testified in front of the Senate's Housing and Homelessness Prevention Committee in support of the Challenge Bill - a bill that funds affordable housing programs across the state. Mikeya spoke about the power of the land trust model and the importance of state funding within the affordable housing ecosystem - citing how Rondo CLT benefited from the Challenge Funds. We are grateful for the support the Minnesota Consortium of Community Developers provides to not just us, but all of their members!

Mark your calendars! On Saturday, February 15th, Rondo CLT is happy to present the first in a series of Black History Month Wellness events: Community Mental Health with T. Mychael Rambo. A 3-time Midwest Emmy Award winning actor, vocalist, arts educator author, and public speaker, he’s made an indelible mark in the Twin Cities. You might recognize him as an accomplished auctioneer/emcee, but he is also a motivational speaker. This event is free and we encourage anyone and everyone to attend.

On January 30th, Rondo CLT hosted members of Minnesota's House of Representatives for an afternoon focused on the Land Trust model and its role in supporting the state's affordable homeownership goals and economic opportunities. We also had the opportunity to hear from Krystina, one of our CLT homeowners, who shared her family's journey to homeownership with us. A big thank you to everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to join us and learn together!

Last week, the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder asked community members to reflect on how Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s work influences their lives today. Felicia Perry, Rondo CLT's Economic Development Manager, shared, "through wellness practices like yoga, breathwork, and mindfulness, I help communities build resilience and prioritize self-care as a revolutionary act. These practices echo Dr. King’s belief in cultivating inner peace and emotional discipline as part of nonviolent resistance." We are grateful to have Felicia Perry on our team because of her community-centered approach to her work that is so deeply rooted in building connection and equity.
