Great analysis by Jason M. Lemkin - and nice to see a healthy multiple. A good sign for AI startups. It's all about meeting ARR milestones - $1M, $10M, $100M. This is a good story.
ServiceNow is acquiring AI Support start-up Moveworks for a stunning $2.85 Billion at $100m ARR!! 🎊 A huge win for AI SaaS and more 📈 A great ARR multiple (25x+) 🤷 But … did the last round investors make any money? Probably not. The last round in 2021 was at a $2.1 Billion valuation. Their gain, if any, was modest. These deals can be a bit complicated: ➡️ Sometimes, growth investors here still make a little bit of money ➡️Sometimes, they lose money ➡️Sometimes, they will block these deals if they can ➡️ Most often perhaps, they just get their money back, over time, with a 0% gain.
