In a significant victory for our campaign partner Advocates for the Future, Fossielvrij NL and Reclamejagers, the Dutch advertising board has ruled against MSC Cruises for misleading #greenwashing claims. MSC's claims about using "clean" #LNG fuel were found to be inaccurate and misleading. This is a clear message to the cruise industry: greenwashing won't cut it. We must transition to truly sustainable and zero-emissions shipping solutions. At the RGMT - Rostock Large Engine Symposium this morning, Lukas Leppert - representing our partner NABU e.V. - delivered a keynote presentation for Session 1: Requirements for Sustainable Marine Fuels. NABU e.V. has set the tone for the conference by highlighting the critical need for #transparency and regulation in the transition to sustainable marine fuels. They directly address a major concern with #LNG - its #methane emissions - which can negate any potential climate benefits. Lukas concludes that the "transformation of the shipping industry requires a constructive dialogue between all stakeholders.” As the conference continues, it will be crucial to balance the development of new technologies with a commitment to a just and equitable transition in the maritime shipping industry. 💡

A coalition of NGOs, including our campaigner partner Opportunity Green, has taken the EU Commission to court over their decision to classify polluting #LNG-powered ships as "sustainable" under the EU #Taxonomy. Under the Taxonomy rules, enormous cruise ships that run entirely on fossil LNG could be deemed ‘green'. According to OG's Legal Director David K., “[t]he Taxonomy is set to mobilise billions of Euros of private finance. But the aviation and shipping criteria send completely the wrong signal to #investors – directing investments to planes and ships that will pollute the climate for decades to come.” 

Royal Caribbean Group is touting #LNG as a "clean" fuel for their cruises and a big step towards their pursuit of a clean energy future. It's not.
