Morris College continues to champion Social Justice as a core principle. As the 11th President of the College, I was thrilled to welcome U.S. Congressman James E. Clyburn back home. We've secured nearly a million dollars from the Department of Justice to launch the nation's first Law Enforcement Certificate Program. This program will offer comprehensive training for officers nationwide, emphasizing the importance of understanding and respecting the cultural differences of the communities they serve. It's a groundbreaking initiative that we are incredibly proud of! The DOJ selected Morris College for the following reasons: 1. For over 20 years, through its Criminal Justice program, we have been one of the leading HBCUs in the nation for training future law enforcement officers. 2. Over the last ten years, we have produced over 175 criminal justice majors, with 36 currently in the pipeline. 3. We were the first private HBCU in the nation to have its own free-standing forensics center, which provided students with hands-on experience. 4. We have forged strong partnerships with the sheriffs and police departments in our local areas. It was a night to remember at our Annual Founder's Ball this past Friday, as we recognized Willis Cantey as The Entrepreneur of the Year 🏆 As Chairperson of the The Harbor Entrepreneur Center, I have the distinct privilege and opportunity to showcase our great community and the entrepreneurs who impact the growth here in Charleston. The uniqueness of this award is that it is not a lifetime achievement award. It recognizes the individual who has achieved one of the greatest entrepreneurial accomplishments over the past year.
