📜 “The #2030Agenda represents our collective vision for a better world. As we reaffirm our commitment to it in NY, we must also ensure that we are effectively communicating its value in improving lives to people at home, with #SDG16 at its core.... Amidst growing global polarization and distrust, we need to rebuild the social contract between people and the national and international institutions mandated to serve them. Failing on our promise to “#LeaveNoOneBehind” cannot be an option.” Excerpt from a powerful joint statement presented by Minister of State Ossian Smyth at the Department of Public Expenditure, National Development Plan Delivery and Reform at the Department of Environment, Climate and Communications in the Government of Ireland this morning at #HLPF2024 on behalf of the Pathfinders member states, co-facilitated by Permanent Mission of Indonesia to the United Nations and the Permanent Mission of Ireland to the United Nations 📣! 🇮🇪🇮🇩 We are grateful for the support of colleagues John Gilroy and Sherley Mega Sandiori for facilitating this joint statement! 📖 Read the statement & watch on United Nations Web TV 📺: https://lnkd.in/erB4gYUA #SDGs #SDG16 #2030Agenda #PactOfTheFuture

❓ #DYK: Canada 🇨🇦 is a global leader in creating evidence-based justice policies. According to a 2021 Statistics Canada | Statistique Canada survey, millions of Canadians experienced at least one serious legal problem since 2018. 📊 Using this survey data and complementary qualitative studies, they found specific communities disproportionately impacted by justice and discrimination-related problems among the top four most commonly reported issues. 📝 Department of Justice Canada | Ministère de la Justice du Canada has used this information to inform community-specific justice strategies, specifically for Indigenous and Black communities, to support equal access to #JusticeForAll. 🚀 Learn how Canada is expanding its #AccessToJustice: https://lnkd.in/e9aw3JtT 📂 More #PeopleCenteredJustice resources: 1️⃣ https://lnkd.in/e7Qafqmf 2️⃣ https://lnkd.in/gTMZZfQF 3️⃣ https://lnkd.in/exc2r8mJ #SDG16Plus #LeaveNoOneBehind #AccessToJustice

🔢 The urbanization of Sub-Saharan #Africa is characterized by: 🏘️ 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀: Many of the policies and plans, such as outdated plot sizes, laid out during colonial times, still contribute to the present-day challenge of affordable housing. 🏭 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Efforts to address urban growth post-independence were hampered by building commercial sectors and an inability to execute planning functions. ⛔ 𝗨𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵: Cities in Sub-Saharan Africa face a population increase, which outpaces economic development or better living standards. 💰 #𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Rapid urbanization has widened the gap between the demand and supply of affordable housing. High costs and inadequate housing mean many urban dwellers are forced into informal settlements. 📑 Download the full report by International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED)’s Paula Sevilla Núñez now! 🔽 https://lnkd.in/e-YdmVsE #SDG16Plus #HousingJustice #LeaveNoOneBehind #HousingForAll #SDG11 #SustainableDevelopment

🤔 How did community-driven reforms transform policing after the Northern #Ireland 🇮🇪 conflict? 🏛️ New oversight bodies with community and political representatives were created for accountability. 👮♂️ The reformed police service was downsized, adopted new uniforms, and was renamed the Police Service of Northern Ireland. 🏘️ Community input helped negotiate provisions addressing #inequalities and #HumanRights abuses in the Good Friday Agreement. 💼 Employers with over 10 employees were required to monitor hiring practices to prevent #discrimination. ➕ Discover more about these reforms in Visiting Scholar Nicola Browne (Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies)’s latest blog ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eYj2A47X #NYUCIC #SDG16Plus #Inequality #Exclusion #ConflictResolution
